Obituary of Don Hatchell
Don Hatchell was born August 12, 1934, in Hobart, Oklahoma, and passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on September 20, 2010, due to complications of heart, lung, and kidney disease. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, and sister. In 1956, he married his beloved wife, Gwen. They enjoyed 54 years together and had two children; Mark and Mickey. Don is also survived by his daughters-in law Cathy and Lori and eight grandchildren; Connor, Riley, Kate, Blake, Mike, Justin, A.J., and Karissa,Don served in the Army and fought in the Korean War.He also was a long-time Colorado Springs resident. For 29 years, he was a coach, teacher, and administrator in the Widefield School District at Watson Junior High and Widefield High School.After retiring, Don and Gwen split their time between Colorado Springs and Palm Springs, California, in the winter. He also enjoyed working as a starter at the Broadmoor golf courses.Don enjoyed spending time with family and loved watching his grandchildren. He enjoyed playing golf, watching football, and fishing with his sons. He loved riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle and riding in his Corvette convertible-especially riding in parades with his three granddaughters "The Hatchell Girls" on the back. He was also a true and loyal fan of Oklahoma University football.He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 24, at The Springs Funeral Services at 3115 East Platte Avenue. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 25, at Pikes Peak Christian Church, 4955 Bradley Road in Widefield.
