Obituary of Leonardo Sanchez Barraza

Leonardo Sanchez BarrazaSeptember 16, 1920 – October 11, 2010Leonardo Sanchez Barraza left this life to be with our Lord on Monday, October 11, 2010 after a short illness. He was born September 16, 1920 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Lubincio and Maria Barraza.He joined the Army where he met his wife, Dora Elena Vigil, while stationed in Camp Beale, California. Leon was attached to the Chemical Warfare Company on Okinawa where he drove cargo trucks, semi trailers, bulldozers and vehicles in combat areas. He also maintained, serviced and made general overhauling of truck engines and trailers. He spent most of his working life after the military handling heavy equipment such as alfalfa columbines, cranes, and trucks with various companies. He also worked many years with Western Scrap as head crane foreman.He is survived by his wife, Dora Elena Barraza; children, Donna Curley and her husband Al, Dan Barraza and his wife Linda, Fred Barraza and his wife Denise, Robert Barraza, Randy Barraza and Diana Godfrey and her husband Kenneth; 19 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.He was the light of our lives and the family icon who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. His family and friends will remember him for his sense of humor, teasing and lust for life with a smile.A viewing will be held from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM Thursday, October 14, 2010 at The Springs Funeral Services, 3115 E. Platte Avenue. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, October 15, 2010 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1830 S. Corona Avenue. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, 1005 S. Hancock Avenue.
