Obituary of Ralph Franklin Hall
Ralph was born in Lawrence, Kansas and grew up in Monee, Illinois. He served briefly in the United States Army at the end of World War II. He is a 1954 graduate of The University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine. Ralph was preceded in death by Marian Speer Hall, the mother of his three children in 1968. He then married Joanne Williams who also preceded him in death in 1987. There were two step-children from that marriage. In 1988 he married Jean Jones Hall, nee: Emogene Jones.Ralph entered private practice in LaHarpe, Illinois shortly after graduation where he remained for 10 years. He then took a position with the University of Tennessee Comparative Animal Research Laboratory in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. In 1973 he was invited to become the first University of Tennessee Extension Service Veterinarian. In 1976 he joined the faculty of the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine at its inception. He maintained a joint appointment with the University Extension Service and College of Veterinary Medicine until his retirement as Professor Emeritus in 1997.Survivors include wife, Jean; son, Mark Hall, DVM, his wife Jamie Lewis and their children Erik and Aimee; daughter, Kathryn Hall, her husband, Peter Garst and their children Jared and Emma; daughter, Marilyn Hall, her husband Christopher Lewis and their children Acer and Mica. Other survivors are brother, George Hall and wife, Carol, Jean's six children David Talbert, Phillip Talbert, Melinda Talbert, Noel Cliett, Toni Joslin, Joseph Talbert and six step-grandchildren. Through annual Hall-Speer family reunions, Ralph maintained a relationship with numerous nieces and nephews. Ralph was blessed with many extended family members through his three marriages. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Donald Hall and Harold Hall.A Memorial Service will be held 10:00AM, Friday, July 13, 2012 at First Congregational Church, 20 E.
