Obituary of Virgil L. Robertson

Virgil L. Robertson was born on Aug. 3, 1932 in Ramah, Colorado in a country home to Murray M. and Rena M. Robertson. He passed away on September 27, 2012 at home in Colorado Springs after a long illness with emphysema. He attended Colorado Springs (Palmer) High School before the family moved to Phoenix, Arizona. He had a successful career as a high school varsity basketball coach, athletic director, and teacher in Whittier Union School District in Southern California. He was an enthusiastic golfer, fisherman, and tennis player. However, he thrived on the game of basketball having played in high school, college, and the Air Force. Virgil loved his family, his basketball players, and the Colorado Mountains. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving as a cryptographer for the Air Force in Japan. He leaves to cherish his memory, Kay Robertson, his wife of 33 years; two sons, Ron and Rob (Linda); three grandchildren, Lindsey, Riley, and Larissa (Cameron); stepdaughter, Jeanne (Dennis) Uyesugi; stepgrandson, Brian (Maria) Uyesugi; step great granddaughter, Mika Uyesugi, brother, Ron (Patti); sister, Carol (Wayne) Ruettinger ; nephews, Virgil (Amy) Robertson, Eric Ruettinger; nieces, Wendy Harmon, Michelle (Matt) Heeter; great niece, Malea Heeter, great nephew, Malakai Heeter .He was preceded in death by his parents and his grandson, Ryan Robertson. Virgil will be missed but never forgotten by his family, his basketball players, and a lifetime of students and faculty.
