After a long, lifetime battle with muscular dystrophy, It is remarkable the obstacles he has faced and yet still has so much courage. He has faced more challenges than any person his age should ever have to. He has been such an amazing inspiration. I will always remember our childhood years growing up together and the memories he has left upon me.

Mike, Verda and Jake, When I read this poem I thought of all of you ane the memory collage. It will help keep Josh in our hearts forever. My Memory Library Imagine if I was given one moment, just a single slice of my past. I could hold it close forever, and that moment would always last. I'd put the moment in a safe, within my hearts abode. I could open it when I wanted, and only I would know the code.

continued: I could choose a time of laughing, a time of happiness and fun. I could choose a time that tried me, through everything I've done. I sat and thought about what moment, would always make me smile. One that would always push me, to walk that extra mile. If I'm feeling sad and low, if I'm struggling with what to do. I can go and open my little safe, and watch my moment through. There are moments I can think of, that would lift my spirits everytime. The moments when you picked me up, when the road was hard to climb.

continued part three: For me to only pick one moment, to cherish, save and keep, Is proving really difficult, as I've gathered up a heap! I've dug deep inside my heart, found the safe and looked inside, there was room for lots of moments, in fact hundreds if I tried. I'm building my own little library, embedded in my heart, for all the moments spent with you, before you had to part. I can open it up whenever I like, pick a moment and watch it through, My little library acts as a promise, I'll never ever forget you

I am a firm believer that people live on with us through memories and how they impact the lives of others. One thing we will always remember about Josh is from a Thanksgiving visit many years back. Our daughter Riley was very young and Josh, without even being asked, sat and read to her over and over the entire time we were there. You could see how genuine his interest and caring was, and this is a rare thing in such a young person. It is amazing how memories like this can remind you of the true nature of an individual and how special a loved one can be. Josh will be missed, but lovingly remembered. Mark, Tammy, Duncan, and Riley

No person, no object, no event, no experience whatsoever will ever replace the memories of Josh's smile, his laugh, his dry humor, and the way he whipped his wheelchair up the ramp at his graduation to receive his hard-earned diploma. Josh NEVER gave up. He showed us ALL how to live life and not complain. A real warrior who has earned his reward. Another star; another angel. God Bless. Grandpa Dave and Grandma Barb

What moves through us is a silence, a quiet sadness, a longing for one more day, one more word, one more touch, we may not understand why you left this earth so soon, or why you left before we were ready to say good-bye, but little by little, we begin to remember not just that you died, but that you lived. And that your life gave us memories too beautiful to forget. And you will always be in our hearts.

I was Josh's case manager at FHS for only about one year while he was receiving tutoring from Mrs. Mary. I wish I could have known him as well as Mary did. She always had such wonderful things to say about him. She would tell me things like... even though he was quiet, he still had many friends online. I felt I shared that sort of "quietness" connection with Josh--I met my husband online, the same way he met most of his friends. He was always a good student, and I'm very blessed to have known him. He is an inspiration for his determination and fighting spirit. What a gift that I got to share a small part of his time. To his family: I'm sorry you're going through this. I know there is nothing I can say or do to make it easier, but I will be praying for all of you. Thank you for sharing Josh with us.

I was with Josh throughout high school as his para. He called me Miss Mary and we shared many a laugh. I remember how his face would turn really red when he laughed. He wanted so much to be independent and do things for himself. He could get really stubborn sometimes, but I teased him and made him laugh a lot and he made me laugh a lot, too. He had beautiful eyes and a wonderful shy kind of smile. I loved working with him everyday. He loved my peanut butter fudge and I remember he was reluctant to share with the family when I brought it to the house. He was a wonderful artist. He would talk about designing computer games. That was what he loved. He never complained and showed such courage in the face of his illness, and he will always have a special place in my heart and I will never forget him. I am so sorry that I was out of touch with you for so long. My thoughts are with you, Verda, Mike, and Jacob. May God bless and comfort you. You are in my prayers.

I had the awesome privilege of being Josh's one on one para throughout his high school years. Bright, shy, and artistically talented , he had a quiet but independent spirit.. He got stubborn sometimes about his school work or other things and I would tease him. He would laugh and turn red in the face. Always ready with a smile, his quiet nature didn't show his courage in dealing with his illness. Josh will always hold a special place in my heart.
