Obituary of Maureen Joan Swezey Colonel Ret. USAF)

Maureen Joan Swezey died on August 17, 2013 peacefully in the comfort of her home with her closest friend and daughter at her side. Maureen was born in the town of Catskill, New York in 1964 and after graduation from high school in Phoenicia, New York, she attended Syracuse University ('86). She then served in the United States Air Force, first as an acquisition officer and then as a system analyst. In 1991, Maureen decided to return to school and in 1995, she graduated with her MD from Uniformed Service University of Health Sciences. She began her medical career as an obstetrician gynecologist by first training at Wilford Hall Medical Center and then serving as the commander of the obstetrics and gynecology clinic at Yokota Air Force Base in Tokyo, Japan. Always adventuresome, Maureen next served as a flight surgeon for flight personnel and family. She returned to obstetrics and gynecology in 2004, first at the United States Air Force Academy and next as a provider as well as the Deputy Chief of Staff at Malcolm Grow Medical Center. She retired as a Lieutenant Colonel from the Air Force in 2010 after 24 years of service. Maureen then returned to Colorado Springs where she finished her career as a contract physician at Evans Army Hospital. She is survived by her son, Sean Swezey and her daughter Jaime Swezey. She is also survived by many loving friends. Her spirit, lust for life and talents will be celebrated at The Springs Funeral Services located at 3115 E. Platte Avenue at 1 pm on August 24th.
