Obituary of Robert Neal Houston

Robert Neal Houston, a resident of Colorado Springs for 15 years, died on May 29, 2014.Neal was born on August 26, 1954, in Washington, DC and lived for a short time in Marion, Iowa, before his parents, Barbara Ann and Richard House Houston, settled the family in Richardson, Texas, a Dallas suburb, for several years.Neal graduated from Berkner High School in 1972, then attended a radio and television trade school where he developed the mellifluous voice that he used throughout his telephone marketing and service career. During this time he also distinguished himself as an actor in community theatre and a rock percussionist of some renown.Neal remained in the Dallas area for another 20 years while his older brother, Rick, resided in west Texas, then Philadelphia, and his parents moved to Durango, Colorado. In 1998, after increasing dissatisfaction with the Dallas scene, Neal decided that Colorado Springs was the place he wanted to live. The move brightened his spirit and enriched his life.Among Neal's passions was his love of martial arts, and it was in such a class that he met Angie Haakensen, who soon became his partner and wife. His life was further brightened and enriched. Chief among their mutual interests was long drives into the mountains to visit their favorite spots.Neal is survived by Angie and his brother, Rick.There will be a memorial on Saturday, June 14 at 11:00 am at Mtn.
