Neal, my brother-in-law, was a singular person. A big bear of a man--even furry with his full beard!--he was thoughtful and articulate. I was so proud of him for making the move from Dallas, where he was not very happy, to Colorado Springs simply because he loved the mountains. I remember well a rainy day when Neal, his brother Rick (my husband), our young daughter Olivia, and my father-in-law hiked in the mountains outside Durango. Years later, the brothers spread the ashes of their mother and father from a cliff there. Presently, Neal's ashes will be scattered in the same fragrant, deep green Colorado woods, and the three will reunite in that peaceful place. Farewell, Neal!

Robert (Neal, as I knew him) was a wonderful and sensitive human being who enjoyed being in the mountains of Colorado as much as he enjoyed a rousing mixed-martial-arts UFC match, a Broncos or Cowboys football game, summer/winter/anytime X-Games, or discussing deep, intellectual issues with his brother, Rick. Neal and I spent nearly 15 years together, some good, some rocky, but always there was love...I wish you peace, my love... Angie Haakensen
