Obituary of Shannon Lee Reece

Shannon Reece, 48, of Colorado Springs, CO passed away unexpectedly on June 24, 2014. He was born September 30, 1965 in Larned, KS to Clyde and Barbara Reece. He graduated from Pawnee Heights High School in 1984, and Fort Hays State University in 1988 with a bachelor's degree in geology. He began working part-time at Wal-Mart while working on his master's degree and ended up full time at Wal-Mart with the offer of a management position. In 1989 he met the love of his life, Dawn Davis, and they were married a year later on August 11, 1990. They were blessed with the birth of their daughter, Kelsea on December 15, 1991.As he rose through the ranks of Wal-Mart they resided in Hutchinson and Garden City, Kansas, Sheridan, Wyoming and finally settled in Colorado Springs, CO in 1996 where he served as the store manager of the Chapel Hills Wal-Mart for the past 18 years. Anyone that knew Shannon knew he lived life to the fullest - packing 100 years of experiences into 48. He and Dawn loved to travel all over the world - to such far flung locations as India, Africa, Cambodia, and Israel. Backpacking alone, he took challenges head on by climbing Anapurna in the Himalayas of Nepal and hiking the Inca trail to Machu Picchu in Peru. He had an extensive bucket list and delighted in crossing several items off the list each year, including hot air ballooning, skydiving, and his most recent, bungee jumping. One of the absolute highlights of his bucket list experiences was backpacking to Europe with 3 of his best friends and attending the Tour de France in person.Bicycling was one of Shannon's greatest passions and in the last 4 years he had racked up a total of nearly 17, 000 miles - with many, many thousand more before that, including a 3 day, 300 mile ride from Colorado Springs to his parent's farm in Burdett, KS. In the last year his greatest joy was Dawn being able to join him in his love of bicycling and they trained together in preparation for two of the year's organized rides. Shannon was a devoted Christian, having given his life to Christ at the age of 14. He and Dawn traveled on short term mission trips praying over the sick and infirm and witnessing many miraculous healings. But his greatest joy was praying for his friends and family and especially his co-workers and employees. He got up very early every morning in order to pray for all those around him he loved and cared for - standing in faith that every prayer would be answered.Shannon is survived by his wife of 24 years, Dawn, and their daughter, Kelsea of Colorado Springs; parents Clyde and Barbara Reece of Burdett, KS; brother Mitch Reece (Nancy) of Kechi, KS; brother Aaron Reece (Alethia) of Broken Arrow, OK and numerous nieces and nephews. Shannon will be remembered by all extended family, friends and co-workers as a strong man of faith that loved life with everything in him and lived life to the absolute fullest.Visitation will be Friday, June 27th at The Springs Funeral Services, 3115 E.
