Obituary of Gerald "Alan" Otterbacher
Alan was born in Berea, Ohio and spent most of his childhood in the Medina area. At a young age, and under the guidance of his father and grandfather, he learned to hunt, fish, and trap in the woods and countryside of Northern Ohio. At age 13, Alan moved to Columbus, Ohio with his mother and three sisters. He also lived in Crete, Nebraska for a short while. At age 16, Al moved to Manitou Springs, Colorado where he met his wife, Karen. He had a deep love and appreciation for music and continued his passion for hunting and fishing while they raised their two daughters, Melissa (David) Hendricks and Amanda (Caleb) Alexander in the Colorado Springs area. Alan worked for Safetran Traffic Systems for 14 years as a draftsman. He was an avid gardener and developed a beautiful talent for wood carving. In 2002, he was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, and though he was unable to work due to its complications, Alan still enjoyed some hunting and fishing with friends and family. He also loved to travel "home" to Ohio– and also Montana where his daughters and their families resided.
