Obituary of LaDawn Morton

LaDawn Morton was a loving Mother, Wife, Sister, aunt, sister-in-law, and maker of many friends. She passed away on Sunday, 9 August, at Penrose/St Francis Hospital on Nevada Avenue in Colorado Springs. She had suffered a brain aneurysm on the evening of Wednesday, 5 August, at her home and she could not recover.LaDawn was born on 2 January 1942 to the late Ivan and Thelma Morris and grew up in rural Oklahoma. She graduated high school in Oklahoma and lived briefly with an aunt in Florida. She then moved to Salina, Kansas where she worked in a grocery store. It was there that she met her husband, Tom, who also went to work there during the same week. They were married on 22 July 1961 and celebrated 54 years of marriage this year. A little short of two years after marriage to LaDawn, husband Tom returned to the U. S. Air Force and they served more than 16 years to complete Tom's 20 years. They enjoyed traveling to Japan and the Philippines as well as stations in Missouri, California (3 locations), and Minnesota, finally landing in Colorado at the USAF Academy. The family "voted" to settle down in Colorado Springs and it was LaDawn's and Tom's current home.LaDawn LOVED cruising, which she and Tom started in 1982, and she enjoyed it more than any other activity in her life. She loved reading, working puzzle books, and listening to country and western music. She did work once the children were old enough. She worked in realty property management (she completed realtor training), became a shop owner, and worked for 16 years with Ford Aerospace/Loral/Lockheed Martin corporations (in the same building throughout) as a payroll clerk/secretary/PBX operator. She and Tom retired at the end of 2004 to enjoy cruising and travelling.LaDawn is survived by her husband, Tom; daughters Diane Morton and Linda Morton; sister Lucille Switzer; brothers Leon Morris with wife Sandra and Lowell Morris with wife Sharon; brothers-in-law Bill Morton, Ken Morton, and Ralph Morton; nieces and nephews Rondo Switzer, Barry Switzer, Ken Morton Jr, Sarah (Morton) Saltzman with husband Todd, Mary Lynn Morton, Lance Morton with wife Katy, Garrett Smith, Lance Smith, Kyle Smith, and Michael Morris with wife April. She was preceded in death by sons Thomas Morton and Wolf (Steven) Morton; her parents; sister Lynette Morris; brother-in-law Gary Switzer; sister-in-law Patricia (Morton) Smith.Visitation, 2:00PM to 4:00PM, Saturday, August 15, 2015 at The Springs Funeral Services, 3115 E.
