Obituary of John Patrick Hickey
John Patrick Hickey, 61, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, passed away on Friday, October 14, 2016. Born in Chicago, Illinois to Muriel Mary St. John and Edmund Thomas Hickey, John grew up in Southern California where he excelled in sports, including varsity football and wrestling. After graduating from Charter Oak High School in 1973, he soon moved to Colorado, where he began work in the telecommunications industry. John was a partner in J's Communications, which remained in business in the Colorado Springs area for many years.John was a passionate person who enjoyed lively debate, pondering life's existential questions, and challenging others to expand their thinking about the world at large. Outside of his professional life, John was, without a doubt, the unrivaled architect of a good time. He was known for throwing legendary Fourth of July parties and beguiling his reluctant teenage children to visit the annual Renaissance Festival, often in a limousine, to which they now remember with great fondness. John will be remembered for his sharp wit, contagious laughter and the inimitable ability to make the mundane interesting. He is preceded in death by his parents, Muriel Mary St. John and Edmund Thomas Hickey; as well as his brother, Edmund Hickey, II.John is survived by his two children, Carrie Perkins and Chris Gallagher; his four sisters, Jeanne Higham, Gail Premer, Debra Pettit and Diane Steinbeiser; and his loving companion, Diane Kersey. The family will hold a memorial service at 11:00AM, Saturday, November 5, 2016 at the Colorado Cowboys for Jesus, located at 11 North 22nd Street, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80904.
