Obituary of Marie Porter Sloan

Marie Sloan, age 87, a resident of Colorado Springs since 1984, died on August 4, 2017 at her home in Colorado Springs surrounded by her loving family. She had previously lived in Oklahoma. Marie retired from a successful sales career in Direct Marketing with Mary Kay cosmetics and twenty-two years with Christmas Around the World. She was a wonderful daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother.Marie Porter was born on December 13, 1929 in Colorado Springs to the late Forest L. and Ethleen Lucille (Perry) Porter. She was a 1947 graduate of Marceline High School in Marceline, Missouri. She married Bud Yates in 1949 and raised a family. She later married Doyle Sloan on May 18, 1972.She was a member of the Red Hat Society, TOPS, The Retired Enlisted Association, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. She enjoyed ceramics, quilting, scrapbooking, and travel. She will be best remembered for her wonderful sense of humor and her love of family.She is survived by her sister, Donna Porter Stringer; and her five children, Carolyn Cummings, Snake (Jackie) Yates, Donna Kay Smith, Daniel J. (Sherry) Yates, and Lori Yates. She is also survived by stepchildren, Chris (Mary) Sloan, and Jimmy (Tammy) Sloan of Lebanon, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her son, Bud Yates; her husband, Doyle J.
