Obituary of SFC Joseph "Joe" M. Bauserman,, US Army, Jr.

Joe, as he liked to be called, was born in the little town of McGaheysville, Virginia to Joseph M. Sr. and Nellie Bauserman, on March 11, 1940. He joined the United States Army and served his country for two tours in Vietnam, as well as a tour in Germany and Fort Dix, New Jersey. He retired from the Army in 1980, then worked in Federal Civil Service for eighteen years before finally retiring in 1998.Some of his Military Service Awards include: National Defense Service Medal; Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster; Vietnam Campaign Medal; Parachute Badge, Expert Sharpshooting Badge, and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm.Joe enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing golf. His favorite actor was John Wayne, but he enjoyed all western and military-themed movies. He was always generous with his time to anyone in need. He was usually the first one to help his neighbors clear their sidewalks after a snowstorm. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Lillian Mitchener Bauserman; brothers, Roger and Callie Bauserman; sister, Nellie Powell, all of Virginia; daughter, Libby Jo (Daniel) Malarkey; son, James Bauserman of Florida; and step-daughter, Sherry (John) Grant.Joe is preceded in death by his son, Jerry.He is also survived by five grand-children: Danny and Amanda Malarkey of Florida; James Bauserman of Texas; Bryce and Madison Bauserman of Virginia; and also four great-grandchildren; Jeremiah, Liam, Lola, and Gabriel.
