Obituary of John Michael Stepisnik
John Michael Stepisnik was born April 23, 1949 in Leadville, Colorado. John grew up in Leadville, but spent time in Texas as well. John and Jeana started dating when they were fifteen years old. John joined the Army so he could marry the love of his life. Shortly after being married, they began their family as we all know it today. John served in the 173rd Airborne Infantry in Vietnam. He continued his serve in Georgia, Germany, and back in Colorado for a total of twelve years. John received an Honorable Medical Retirement from the military. After leaving the military, the family moved back to Leadville. He followed the same path as his family had for many generations and became an underground miner at the Climax Molybdenum Mine. When the mine shut down, the family moved back to Colorado Springs where John went to work for Barker Heating and Sheet Metal. He had an accident that left him permanently disabled. He learned how to decorate cakes and opened his own cake shop. John has made many beautiful cakes.John was a man of many talents. He loved music, playing the guitar, banjo, accordion, and harmonica. He loved to feed people and teach them how to cook. He loved and enjoyed his family. If he knew you, you were family. He was always taking care of someone. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, and gold prospecting. He loved finding and collecting antiques. You knew he liked you if he gave you a hard time or teased you. The last year of his life he battled lung cancer due to agent orange exposure in Vietnam. John will be greatly missed and forever loved by all.
