Obituary of Jacqueline "Jackie" Mary Cormie

Jacqueline Mary Cormie (Davenport), was born in Manchester, England on October 16, 1940 and died on April 28, 2018 at the age of 77. "Jackie" was raised in the Trafford Park section of Manchester and survived the frequent bombing during World War II. Jackie had a lifelong love and support for Manchester United Football Club - with the chance to attend many games over the years! She was a successful student growing up, and received her initial teacher training education in Dudley, Worcestershire, starting as a teacher at Urmston Junior School on the outskirts of Manchester. On August 10, 1963, Jackie married Donald Henry Cormie and they settled in San Antonio, Texas where she was hired to teach at a parochial school. She spent the next two decades of her life raising two children and participated in many civic and charitable activities and organizations in San Antonio, including civil rights marches. Jackie also helped to create the British Sporting Club, (hosting many traditionally "British" events for family and friends), and enjoyed welcoming new immigrants to San Antonio. Her love of teaching eventually took her back to school where she received her degree from The University of Texas in San Antonio and continued to teach elementary-aged children in San Antonio schools for many years.Jackie was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 1987 and spent the last half of her life successfully fighting several health challenges. In spite of these difficulties, she was determined to live her life to the fullest, and she did! She loved dancing, hosting famous New Year's Eve parties, playing trivia, working crossword puzzles, and spending time with people; particularly those in her family, friends near and far and all the special children in her life. Among her proudest accomplishments were her great love for Don during their marriage of 42 years as well as her unwavering love and devotion to her two children and being an adoring "Nana/Nan" to four amazing grandchildren, numerous honorary grandchildren and her five great-God-children. Jackie was preceded in death by her husband Donald Henry Cormie, mother Nellie Davenport, and father John "Jack" Davenport. She is survived by her son Duncan Craig Cormie of Austin, Texas; daughter Andrea Denise Cormie-Strader and husband Dr. James Russell Strader of Colorado Springs, Colorado; sister Andrea Parkin and husband Peter Parkin, of Preesall, England; brother John Davenport; grandson Dougal Donald Cormie; granddaughter Jazmine Elizabeth Strader; granddaughter Emily Donelle Strader; granddaughter Brynna Skye Cormie; honorary daughter Patricia Elaine Morfeld of Carborro, North Carolina; and niece Kaz Sephton of San Antonio, Texas; as well as many other wonderful nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews, cousins, great-God-children, and dear friends. Duncan and Denise send a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Morningstar at Mountain Shadows, Suncrest Hospice staff and the Kindred At-Home Home Health Team. Also their sincere thanks and endless gratitude is extended to caregiver Kim Uecker and former caregivers Tara Mayson, Wendy Campbell, and Ana Maria Perez, as well as the amazing Rodgers seven whom were critical in her final care.
