My heart is heavy , I will never be able to express how much I loved and cared for my Grandfather, he made me the person I am today. He gave me my first penguins and he was honestly the funniest person I have ever met. He taught me so much about life, family and unconditional love. The only positive male figure in my life, A Father honestly. He was the best man I have ever known and it's hurts so much to see him go but I know he is no longer suffering and is at peace. I can't wait to laugh with you again Goob.

To my friend Gary, In one of the earliest memories of my childhood I was sitting on the front lawn watching the construction of a new housing development called The Heartstones. Over 70 new homes were built. I don't remember when he arrived but this was where Gary Boyer grew up. The neighborhood was full of kids. We all knew each other by name usually using your last name or your nickname. Gary had two nicknames, Guts and Frenchy. I have no idea where the first one originated but Frenchy was because of his last name. He quickly became part of the neighborhood family. Everybody knew and liked him. Athletically he was very talented. He participated in all the neighborhood activities: kickball, spongeball, football, riding bicycles and spending long summer days at Merrill Park where in the evening hours we played kick-the-can. He could be frequently found fishing in the nearby brook in the warmer months and ice skating in the winter. How quickly the word spread when "the red ball was up" at the pond in Merrill Park, meaning it was deemed safe for ice skating. During his days at JFK High School he was on the wrestling team at the varsity level. we will be JFK Mustangs always. I once wrestled him on a front lawn and within 10 seconds it was over. Another time during a football game he taught me about a cross body block, I flipped over like an Olympic gymnast and did not nail the landing. He was a friend of the family and vice versa. We attended the same church in Iselin, The First Presbyterian. His dad was in the choir. It was always Mr. and Mrs. Boyer, we all grew up never calling an adult by their first name, it was just disrespectful. And of course we all knew Wayne his younger brother. And of course, like many of us, he worked during the summer for Maglione's Italian Ice for our Uncle Ralph. Ralph Maglione gave a job to just about every kid in the neighborhood and was everybody's uncle. Gary also had a paper route for the Newark Evening News, always knowing how to make an extra buck he was a bit of an entrepreneur. He had a never ending love for music and got a ticket for me to see a show at Roosevelt Stadium in Jersey City that I will never forget. Gatherings at his place always involved listening to music. He was also a musician, playing locally at the VFW and CYO, as a part of the Free Love Blues Band. As the years went by many of our conversations had to do with music. He loved cars and was passionate about Corvettes. I'll always remember he had owned more Corvettes by the time he was 21 than humanly possible. It seemed like every month he was driving a different one. And he was a very adept mechanic often being found under the hood of his car in the family driveway obviously agitated about a cylinder or a valve or some noise he was trying to pinpoint. I often had the impression that if he couldn't fix it he got rid of it, and replaced it with another. He had a very profound sense of humor, always making people laugh. One of his strong points was his intelligence, he had to be one of the smartest people I've ever met. He went to Middlesex County College and was taking college level math courses. I believe one of them was Calculus. I would have offered him help, I was a math major at Rutgers, but knew he didn't need it. He frustrated his professor by only showing up for exams. He aced all of his exams but the professor did not want to give him a good grade because of all the classes he cut. He pointed out that he was probably getting the best scores on the exams and didn't see a need to attend classes. From what I understand he aced the course. So what was Gary doing with the time he spent not going to class? Gary liked playing pool with my brother, and of course, he was very good at it. I was, at the time, working at UPS. Something truly amazing happened that changed my life. When I first started at UPS I met a guy named Bobby. He did not like me at all, I mean he detested me, thinking I was some kind of company spy. Bobby liked playing pool and as a result met Gary at Middlesex County College, quickly becoming friends. One day, shortly thereafter, I ran into Gary and my brother. I told Gary I was working for UPS. He asked me if I knew someone named Bobby. The discussion that followed made both of us laugh. I asked Gary not to repeat our conversation. I went into work that evening and ran into Bobby. I looked at him and said I found out you're playing pool with my good friend Frenchy. He gave a look of bewilderment and said he did not know anyone by that name. I said we had a nice long talk about you. His face started turning pale and by his body language he was getting very concerned, saying I don't know who this person is… I then said you might know him by his real name, Gary Boyer, we've been friends for years, and I know everything. The look on Bobby's face was priceless. I then said you know that guy he plays pool with, his name is Bob? You're friends with him too. By now his jaw had dropped, he just looked at me not knowing what to say. I looked at him straight in the eye and said; he's my brother. I looked at Bobby, patted him on the shoulder and said,"Gotcha." I told him he had no worries. As a result of knowing Gary, I had made a best friend for life, also becoming lifelong friends with a large group of other people. For this I will be forever grateful. Bobby has been asking me constantly about Gary. He also wants me to express his condolences to the entire family. There were so many memories, so many good times, Gary was an integral part of my life. We both attended Calvary Chapel in Elizabeth, where we both accepted Christ. It was here he met Jeannie. I was at his wedding. He was a very happy guy. On behalf of the entire Czaplinsky family I would like to express my condolences and send my love to Jeannie, Wayne, his family and many friends, to all those lives he touched in his life. And while his passing saddens me, I am comforted by knowing he is no longer in pain and is in the arms of GOD Almighty. Frenchy, my brother, I will see you on the other side. Donald Czaplinsky

Not a day goes by when I think back at the greatest life I had with the greatest of friends that became my brothers back in Iselin New Jersey. Gary was easy to become friends with as all you needed is to own a Chevy. His passing has brought some of the greatest memories of the times shared and I can say that there was not a time in all the years I have known Gary that we ever regretted. It was always fun and laughter. I will never forget Gary and all the great times growing up. Rest in Peace my friend and go with God. Someday we will all meet again in Heaven.

Jeannie, My heart is broken for you and Gary. He was one of the greatest people I ever knew and truly a lifelong friend. He brought so much laughter into my life and taught me so many valuable lessons. His laughter would light up the room. He had a real gift of making everyone around him feel special. I'm glad he had so many years of happiness with you.
