Obituary of John William Meredith

John Meredith, M.S., P.E.,�received the BSEE from the University of Arkansas and the MSEE from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs.� He was a Senior Member of the IEEE.� He served as Assistant Electronics Officer on the carrier Intrepid, where he qualified as underway Officer-of-the-Deck, and Project Engineering Officer at the Navy Electronics Laboratory.� He was a Nuclear Plant Operations Supervisor on the S5G Navy Nuclear Plant operated by General Electric and has served in a number of engineering and management positions with American Microsystems, Honeywell, Hewlett-Packard, and Agilent Technologies. While Quality Manager at Hewlett Packard's Colorado Springs Technology Center, he organized and directed a Total Quality Management system.His interests are radio-frequency circuit design, American history, investing, and lifelong learning.� He has written a number of technical and professional papers and has taught EE courses at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. John retired from Agilent Technologies in 2008 and was a full-time volunteer in a number of organizations including IEEE, ABET, AARP Foundation Tax-Aide, Agilent/Hewlett-Packard Alumni Club, and American Association of Individual Investors (AAII).John was a registered professional engineer (Idaho, retired status). He was a Director Emeritus of the IEEE Foundation Board of Directors and is a member of the IEEE Foundation Grants Committee. He served as a Director of the IEEE Board of Directors during 2004-2005 (Region 5 Director) and 2007 (IEEE-USA President). He served as an IEEE/EAC Program Evaluator (1991-2002) and as a member of ABET/EAC during 2002-2003 and 2009. He chaired IEEE's Committee on Engineering Accreditation Activities (CEAA) in 2000-2001. He was an IEEE Representative to the ABET Board of Directors (2011-2015) and was a Representative to the ABET Board of Delegates. John's ABET committee service included Strategic Planning, Governance Strategic Task Force III, Global Council Subcommittee, Appeals Committee, and Nominations and Appointments. He was a member of the ABET Finance Committee. John was recently inducted into the Arkansas Academy of Electrical Engineers. John is survived by his beloved wife Lorraine, and two children: Joseph, Allison (Kevin), two grandchildren Courtney and Tiffany, three sisters: Alice (Dan), Onna Faye (Jerry) and Martha (Tommy).
