Marc Caudill posted a condolence

Without fail, one day, each one of us will return home to our maker, and when we do we so want to rejoice in the words: " we'll-done, good and faithful servant." Joe heard those words and can rest in eternal peace knowing he truly made a difference to his fellow man. WOW! What is the count? So many Jr ROTC cadets; so many USAFA cadets,; so many young men and women-his legacy lives on in all of them and in all of us who had the pleasure to know him and call him "MAJ". In 1981 I met the man who would be so instrumental to my professional Air Force career. We all called him "Major" or simply "MAJ". He was so much more than a high school teacher! He was a true mentor and a true friend! When it was time to be commissioned there was only one choice for me-had to be the MAJ. When I visited him years later and he told me to call him Joe. I couldn't. I said, you will forever be "Major"-not simply a military rank but the highest form of reverence I could pay a man who made such an impact to my life and to the lives of so many! God Bless and Tailwinds, "Major" and thank you! Marc Caudill (Class of 1984)

As a best friend of the family, I spent almost as much time at the Livergood home as my own when I was growing up. Joe & Shirley were second parents to me, and I will always remember Joe as the kind and generous man he was. He was always there to give advice and was always quick with a hug for me. They were an important part of my wedding to Scott and I will always remember that last dance with Joe to Frank Sinatra.. he was very "Fred Astaire" that night. He was an important part of my childhood and helped to make me into the person I have grown up to be. He & Shirley continued to be part of our family and close friends to my parents Jacquie & Tom, until God ordered this Officer home. Joe, you were loved and will be missed.

Major Livorgood was one of my instructors (along with Chief Jim Pinkstaff) in AFJROTC at Aurora Central H.S. in the 1987-'88 school year. I always have, and always will remember Major Livergood as a great instructor, and a nice and kind person. My deepest sympathies and condolences to the family and friends of Major Livergood; as well as to my fellow CO-21 cadets who were lucky enough to know him better and longer than I did. Rest easy Major, we'll take it from here. ❤

As one of a number of cadets Joe and Shirley Livergood and their family sponsored at the US Air Force Academy, my wife Tina and I are extremely grateful for the warm hospitality we received from our "second family." Besides his years of outstanding service to his country, he also commissioned many of his cadets to follow in his footsteps, providing the best example any of us could've hope for. Rest In Peace, Major.

Thanks Michael! Really, you should have said, "As two of a number of cadets..." since you're speaking for both you and Tina at the moment. Dad loved having you two around and he was so proud of you both!

Thank you Joy. My dad took so much pride in CO-21 and students like you that he had the honor of teaching -- and in many cases, helping students toward making a career/life in the Air Force or one of its sister services.
