Obituary of Robert "Grumpy" Strey Ummel

Robert "Grumpy" Ummel died January 28, 2019 suddenly and unexpectedly. He was a devout husband, loving father, grandfather, brother and friend to many people; he touched a lot of people's lives with his kind heart and wisdom. He devoted his life to the construction industry, and was very passionate about this work. He was born March 27, 1949 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska to the late Roy Arthur and Earla Mae Ummel. He was a 1967 graduate of Scottsbluff High School. He met and married Vicky Lyn Moss on September 20, 1971 in Garden Grove, California. They moved to Colorado in 1972 and they began their life together, they homesteaded in Woodland Park, Colorado and Grumpy eventually built the home they raised their four children in. Grumpy loved what he did and he was an extremely hard-working man; he will be best remembered for his project work at the Antlers Palmer Center, Denver International Airport, Coors Field, Pepsi Center, ATMEL and Charis Bible College. He found extreme pride in the Charis Bible College project and he put all of his love and skills into that beautiful job. He enjoyed his work and would throw himself into it 150%, he enjoyed drawing and creating blueprints of projects he was working on, and teaching and mentoring others in the construction trade. He was a jack of all trades and could fix anything that needed fixing. He enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, playing cards and telling stories. Grumpy also loved music and spent a lot of his time listening to and enjoying music (Classic Rock was his favorite). He valued and enjoyed time spent with his family, and he was a man who would do anything for them, and his friends. Grumpy was a person who was proud of his accomplishments, his family and his numerous friendships. Every person who knew Grumpy loved and respected him. He had wisdom and something to teach everyone that knew him. He is survived by his wife, Vicky of Woodland Park, Colorado; his daughters, Tracy, Stephanie, and Kelley of Colorado Springs; and his son, Roy of Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Grumpy is also survived by his four grandsons, Brandon, Kai, Grant and Addison; as well as his brothers, Ronald of Meredith, New Hampshire and Richard of Grand Junction, Colorado.
