Obituary of Michael Richard Bierma

Mike R. Bierma, of Buena Vista, passed away at the age of 62 on Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at the Penrose Saint Francis Hospital in Colorado Springs, Colorado. � He was born February 22, 1957 in Sioux Center, Iowa to Carl and Lynn Bierma, who preceded him in death.� � Mike graduated from Iowa State University in 1979 with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering. He started his career in transportation system design in Omaha.� It was on an assignment building the rail lines servicing the coal mines of eastern Wyoming that he met his future wife, Vanessa Warren. Continued advancement and opportunity took the two of them to the Orlando, Florida area and later on to Austin, Texas where he retired in 2014 as a principle project director for Atkins an international design, engineering and project management firm.� The great outdoors and the Rocky Mountains were always an attraction to Mike and in 2017 he and Vanessa relocated to Buena Vista, Colorado. � He is survived by his wife, Vanessa of 35 years; and brothers, Paul (Marilyn) of Groveland, Illinois and Jerry (Patty) of Duncannon, Pennsylvania.
