I first met Rob at "J. Alfred's", a fun and funky bar in Dallas, Texas. He was the manager and due to me hanging out there for weeks, he hired me to work in the kitchen. Over the years we worked together in several bars and restaurants. Along the way, we traveled to Europe together, along with 3 other friends (Doug, Mike & Dick), for several months, going to Luxembourg, Holland, France & Spain. Rob, with 2 other fellow travelers (Doug & Mike) ventured over to Morocco. Several years later, Rob and I were majority owners of a jazz bar in Dallas: "Texas Majic Asylum", where there was a 12 piece jazz band from North Texas University's 1 O'clock Lab Band students on Sunday nights. We also had the great jazz pianist, Red Garland, paly 2 nights a week. Over time I had lost contact with Rob, but I was so very glad we were able to reconnect over the last couple of years. I treasured our phone conversations and was hoping to see Rob in the coming months. I will miss you, my dear friend. Keep rocking the drums! Stephen Seybold

I Met Big Rob when he registered at North Texas State University and interviewed for a job at a small Disco in Denton around 74 or 75. He only worked for e for a short time but we became good friends. He traveled on to Bar Manager of Whiskey River.... and later to GBG - Greenville Bar and Grill. When he needed extra bar help on Holiday's I was always up to jump in to assist him. What a hoot. Lost contact with him for a few years when i got out of the bar scene. And sometime in the mid 80's I ran into him and he was talking about a new area that was going to be the hot spot and he called it Deep Elm (Elum). He was way ahead of his time there and couldnt wait it out until it caught on and "hit". I lost contact again at that time with Rob and had been searching the internet for him since the 80's. I ran into a grade school friend a few months ago and he said he had a brother that had worked at GBG. I asked if he might know Rob and Sho' Nuf he Did and had his phone number! Called Rob in June and wow what a conversation. He was in or just outside Colorado Springs with his sister and his two sons. He said he was quite content and happy. Talked about his sons and was proud of them and his love and admiration for his sister.... maybe for being able to put up with him! LOL Talked about their place in Coloroado . . . and we laughed a lot. We talked about 2 hours .. the old haunts... friends ... good ol' Dallas bar scene memories. He also told me he opened a Jazz Club off Lennon Avenue (late 80's i think) before headiing out of Dallas. I was really touched about some of the things Rob said in our conversaion about our friendship. I can still see his smile.. lol... Rob made his transition, I dont use the word death, died, passed. I say they are words for "other peoples dictionaries. Its not in my personal one. Like the caterpillar that goes to the top of a tree to spin his coccoon.. He doesnt DIE... he Leaves his physical body and makes his beautiful transition into the spiritual butterfly... From the physical "man" to spirit.. there is no death only the transition. So, if you feel a tickle on your nose... a light touch in your hair.. please say Hello to Rob for me. I love ya guy and I am so grateful we had our great conversation just in time. I guess some things are meant to be . . . so happy I ran into an old 4th grade school friend that had a brother.... and reconnected just in time! Until we connect again my friend. "A drums duet"?

Rob Buckman was drummer in a band with my first husband, Tommie Kirkpatrick. Rob was also best man in our wedding in 1974. I have many fond memories of him and wish we could have reconnected before he passed. He was a very special person. Carolyn Amrich Cjamrich@sbcglobal.net
