Dear Sue and Pam, Sandy, and Todd...I am so saddened to hear of Joe's passing. He was such a wonderful man, and an honor to the USAF. I will always remember him with fondness. A sweet story I will share with you shows what a fine boy he was. Our Granny Nevie when she was widowed had to go to work. She was in her fifties and many considered her too old in those days. She went to the Pepsi plant there in Hazard and pestered the manager for a job. He kept telling her no, then one morning he finds her packing bottles. He asked her what she was doing and she told him she had come to work. He was so impressed with her spunk that he hired her. Every day when Joe got out of school he would come by the plant and help his Grandma. We all just loved Joe, and even if we didn't get to see him in years I can tell you that he looks so much like Granny and his Dad. Much love to the family, as always, Cousin Brenda.

Dear Sue and family--my condolences for your loss. I am not sure I have the correct Joe, but he looks like the Joe I remember. I knew a Captain Joe Powell when I was stationed at Campion AFS near Galena, AK in 1963. The site was located close to the Yukon River. I was a young Lt at the time and I recall he was from Hazard Kentucky. He recommended Perrin AFB, TX for my follow-on assignment and I remained in the AF for 26 years, retiring in 1987 here in Colorado Springs. My sympathy. Col Bud Sunderman
