Obituary of Byron Eugene Gerlt
Byron Eugene Gerlt, husband of Linda Gerlt, father to Julia Gellerman, father-in-law to Tony, and grandfather to three amazing grandsons, Gage (20), Gibson (16) and Gannon (7), entered heaven after a stroke in his home in Peyton, Colorado at the age of 76 on Wednesday, January 8, 2020.Byron was born in Falls City, Nebraska on October 22, 1943 to Raymond E. and Margaret J. Gerlt. He is survived by one brother, Gail (Marlene) Gerlt of Roseburg, Oregon; and two sisters, Karen Dorste of Omaha, Nebraska, and Pamela Creasman of Inman, South Carolina. He is also survived by one brother-in-law, Larry Buckminster, and many nieces and nephews. He grew up in the Falls City area and graduated from Falls City High School in 1961. He married his high school sweetheart, Linda Ruth Buckminster, in 1964. Byron graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1971.Byron worked for Burroughs Corporation before starting his own business in 1980. He and Linda owned and operated Performance, Inc., a business forms and advertising products company, in Olathe, Kansas, for thirty-four years before retiring in 2014. After retiring, Byron and Linda moved to Peyton, Colorado to be close to their daughter and her family.Byron was a member of First Baptist Church Black Forest, and was a deacon and involved in men's Bible studies. He loved the Lord, Nebraska football, cars, attending his grandson's sports activities and spending time with friends. He was a kind man who will be remembered for his sense of humor, corny jokes, and missed by all who knew him.Memorial Service, 11:00AM, Saturday, January 18, 2020, First Baptist Church Black Forest, 10915 Black Forest Road, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80908. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Byron's memory may be made to the Nebraska Children's Home Society, 4939 South 118th Street, Omaha, Nebraska 68137 or First Baptist Church Black Forest Global Missions Fund.
