Brother Byron, forgive me in not being there with you today in Celebrating Your Life with others, relatives and friends. You had a great life in covering all phases of life as a baby, child, teenager, young adult, adult, husband, parent, grand parent and retirement. Many obstacles were had in each phase of life but also enjoyment was had. We did have our tiffs & misunderstandings as a child and teenager but as we aged our bond for each other grew. Byron was competitive when we did things together like racquetball & of course table games and card playing was serious at times. Brother Byron this last obstacle could not be remedied since the Lord has other plans for you, Brother Byron Always Gail

My Uncle Byron was a strong, funny, faithful man, who always made me feel loved when I was around. He had a playful nature and a kind heart. One of my favorite memories was when my children were small, Uncle Byron would try to fool them into thinking he was their Grandpa Gail, his brother. My kids suspected this was not the case. Byron then tried to convince them that he was Grandpa Gail's twin (this is not the case). I am sure my kids' memories of Uncle Byron will center around his playful nature, just as mine do. I remember Byron's Ford Mustang, and riding along with him. I remember he liked to drive fast. He would kindly pick me up from Cottey College and deliver me to the airport. Let's just say I was never in danger of missing a flight. I am so grateful to have had such a wonderful uncle. My heart breaks for my Aunt Linda and Cousin Julie, Tony, Gage, Gibson, and Gannon. He left us too soon. I know that he is in heaven for his faith and commitment in the service of the Lord. I pray for the comfort of our family and ask that God hold Linda and Julie and the boys especially close through this difficult time. I regret that we can't be there to hug our family in person. Our hearts are with you. Love, Dana, Vince, Hayden, Devin, and Noah

Linda, You and Byron were equally yoked for decades: At Performance, Inc. with your desks side by side as you created and grew your own company, caring for your customers as your extended family. Your weekend plans frequently revolved around stopping by to visit a customer who was ill, attending weddings and ballgames of their children, and dropping off home baked goods. You were equally yoked in a godly marriage as you served together in the community and neighborhood, as well ministering to the Buckminster and Gerlt families. Anyone who knew you both would be aware that serving the Lord in your church home was always a priority--always behind the scenes, not needing accolades or recognition. Byron's faith story always included that his love for you drew him to make your faith in Jesus his own. Byron had a very tender heart, which was evident when he was talking about your Julie; his eyes would scrunch up and water and he would become choked up--his pride in her was evident. Byron was also patient and tender toward his mother, Margaret, as he drove her back and forth from Falls City to Olathe, helping her with her personal needs while she was wheelchair bound. One of God's great gifts to us is our memory. Praying that the sweet and fun memories of your 55 years of marriage will help ease your grief during this difficult time. I know that those strong hugs and wild ping pong games with your grandsons will continue to fill you with joy.

Byron is someone we will never forget. He was a sweet, gentle man who led our Sunday School Class openings every Sunday and opened with a joke or two, then leading in prayer. He will be missed very much. Our sincere condolences to Linda and her family! With Love, Marilyn and Gail Howard

Meeting Byron and Linda Gerlt and their daughter Julie was one of God's blessings to us. To have a brother and sister in Christ, who really were like a brother and sister for so many years, always made our lives that much better. Even though he knew I was an Okie, Byron always accepted me and we enjoyed one another's company always. May God be with all of his family and friends. Jim and Verla Mayse

I was so saddened to hear the news that my good friend had passed away. Although I know heaven is glad to have him, it still saddens my heart that I will not see him again until that time comes for me. I could write a book about my friend for nearly 40 years that I loved and admired. We enjoyed many "driveway" basketball games where the rule was "no blood, no foul"! We also enjoyed volleyball, pool volleyball in Joe's swimming pool, and TENNIS!, they were not as brutal but still very competitive. Slow pitch softball was another adventure that we played together. The night he pulled his Achilles tendon will be a night that I will never forget. And we did watch a lot of football together--mainly NEBRASKA Cornhusker football. He was an AVID fan and stayed loyal in the good days and the not-so-good days. He even took me to Lincoln for my very first time in their stadium. We also got to travel with Byron and Linda several times. Great visits to Omaha, Branson, and Winter Park to name a few. He and I would agree that the one fishing trip we took to Canada was not the most memorable trip we took together. Long trip and not one fish for either of us! I even traveled with him a few times for his work when he was recovering from surgery. I admired his work ethic, integrity and the care and concern he showed to his customers. Byron loved his family well. I remember him telling me the story of falling in love with Linda and the significant role she played in leading him to Christ. Julie was the bright star in his sky. The special relationship he had with her and her family was incredible. I know how hard this is for each of them, especially his grandsons. While I am saddened by his passing, I can celebrate at the same time because his eternity is secure. He loved the Lord and was a faithful follower and servant of Christ. That impacted every area of his life. I will miss him but will see him again! Thoughts, prayers, and love to Linda, Julie and Tony, Gage, Gibson, Gannon, and the rest of Byron's family and many, many friends! Jim Ater

Byron is the kind of friend and church member every pastor loves and needs and he was that and more to me over the eleven years I was his pastor. He always had a smile and kind word that made you feel better by just being with him. He will be missed but certainly not forgotten. Praying for the family. Charles McLain
