1SG Richard Leroy Sweat, U.S. Army, (Ret.), 73, died April 24, 2020 in Colorado Springs, Colorado.He was born June 1, 1946 in Darlington, South Carolina to Leroy and Alice (O'Neal) Sweat.Richard was a decorated Vietnam Veteran in the United States Army, earning the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Meritorious Service Medal, along with many others. He retired from the United States Postal Service. Richard is preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie Kay Sweat in 2018; and two sisters, Annette Warren and Teresa Caulder.He is survived by his son, Shawn L. (Kenley) Sweat; daughters, Regina L. (Robert) Luerssen and Alicia L. Sweat; ten grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Bobbie Jean Blackmon, Patsy Boswell and Betty Hodge; and brothers, John Sweat, Lee Sweat and Danny Sweat Horne, all of Darlington, South Carolina. A private Funeral Service will be held 11:30AM, Thursday, July 9, 2020. The service will be streamed live.
