I met Mary a few years ago through the CSFCC. I'll never forget how helpful, kind, and encouraging she was to me and my family when my grandson was diagnosed with autism. What a wonderful lady in all respects.

Mary was a shining light to so many! The memories I have of her is having the July 4th shindigs at she and Mike's cabin. She was always such a delight and her passing is a shock to Babes and I. She had a love of the cabin and each time I'm fishing, or hiking and see a wildflower I will say a prayer that she is serving up above in Heaven! Cherith and "Babes" Marchase

Mary's loss is both a surprise and saddening. But it is bearable because she lived her life fully and well, and mostly, on her terms. As an office mate and colleague at USAFA admissions in the late 1980s, she was a knowledgeable and respected member of a unique team, and she could "bust chops" with any of us. As a friend with whom we corresponded and visited over the last 30 years, it was a joy to see her embracing the loves of her life: the husband/partner Mike that she so deserved, her children and grands of whom she was so proud, and her passion for horses and riding. She was a witty, caring and talented friend, whose presence will be missed. Jerry and Lily Barucky

I was so utterly shocked to learn about Mary. I had asked my sister to invite her for social distance drink this Sunday. I had been thinking of her and thought this would Be a fun time to catch up. I have so many fond memories of my long friendship with her. We rode together in the Coxtails. How much she loved horses and riding. I would often play at their house in Colorado Springs. Always envious of her highly orderly polished boots. She would take me To swim and have lunch at the Broadmoor Golf club in the summers. So accomplished yet always natural and such a good friend. I am so sorry. She is lost to us too soon. I regret not seeing more of her on my random trips through the Springs to see my sisters. She always wanted me to come and ride with her or go to the cabin you have in the mountains. She was so proud of Kitren's accomplishments in riding and loved sharing the mutual passion for horses. She will be dreadfully missed. Anne and Charlie Pepper

This picture from Our Coxtails reunion 2002 which Mary helped organize and which lives in my bathroom-hence the spots. A joyful time and her wonderful smile! Such a fond memory.

Mary and I were childhood friends who got together again 20 years later because of horses, which she loved with a passion. Mary was smart, kind, thoughtful, interested, interesting, and engaged. I am shocked at how quickly this cancer progressed. We had a wonderful, long talk just after she was diagnosed. Mary will be missed.

Through all the years I knew Mary, I sure she was made of bungy cords! Every time she got bounced around one of her wild mounts, she'd bounce back and be ready to try again. Her patience with her animals was infinite. She was always ready with some treatment or solution to some equine problem that none of us had ever heard of. She loved to laugh with us, at herself or whatever. I loved her dry Irish humor!!! I will miss her, but I am sure I hear galloping hooves above me as she heads to a fence with a smile on her face. A tip 'o the helmet to you, gal!

I was what everyone called "one of Mary's cadets" from 1986 to 1990, though I suppose I was a bit different in that the time I spent with her and her family didn't just end after "doolie" year. They truly became my home and family away from home, and I still relish every moment I spent with them. Mary wasn't just a respite from my Academy grind, but perhaps the best teacher of leadership and life I had there! Her insight, kindness, perspective and caring influenced me as a military leader and a human being beyond measure. I remember the infinite renovation of the house on Tejon, racing to get back to campus on time in the orange Volvo, the ranch in Parker, a trip to the cabin in 2015 and a wonderful dinner with her, Mike and Erik earlier this year when we moved to Colorado. My family and I are so happy to be close by and to rekindle what had become long distance friendships. I guess for Mary and I, we just need to wait a bit longer. I already miss her immensely, but cannot help smiling whenever I think of her.
