Leann will always be my lifelong friend. We met in high school (1985-86) during band (clarinets). Then I saw her in cross country practice that same year. She always ran ahead of me. I spend 4 years trying to catch her, she was speedy!! She made me laugh and we shared silly moments that I can still recall. She had a bright smile, those beautiful blue eyes, and a positive vibe about her. She was alway health conscious. I remember her packing a healthy bag lunch and taking it to Pantera's Pizza while the rest of us ate the greasy pizza. She had a cute blue Corolla. Cars were a big deal back then, you packed your friends in and rode all over Colorado Springs. She could take a joke and tease you right back. In time, Leann and I joined forces with Carol and Corey when we all went out for cross country. It was a foursome that still remains today. It bonded us through the best and the tough times. We used to spend hours hanging out listening to music and cheering our teammates on at the track meets, waiting for our 2 mile race. Over the years, some of us moved out of state for college. There were weddings, kids, and all the ways life can challenge us. We still kept in touch. I remember when Leann told us about her breast cancer, I was saddened. But Leann had such a positive outlook and she was willing to fight through it. She did what she wanted; she biked, hiked, ran and carried on with life. What an inspiration she is and I don't remember her complaining one bit. I love her so much. It's rare to have such a long friendship, it makes it so hard to let go. I'll always have these cherished memories and that's what I'll hang on to.
