I'm both shocked and saddened for the loss of our friend. I'll miss seeing his van around town and our many visits. Sadly I haven't kept in touch as much as I should have these past few years. I'm so sorry for that. It should make us all realize how important friendships are and for us to keep in better touch. I want to thank you for your service to our great nation. You are now in the company of so many who have served and gone before you. For your family I offer my prayers to our Father to comfort you and keep you in this time of pain. Please stop by or call any time for any reason. I'm in the same house with the same phone number. Be at peace Charley.

I was pleased to meet Charlie when I became a Monument police officer in 2008, after relocating from California. He always had a friendly greeting and firm handshake for us. When winter fell I was impressed by his voluntary snowplowing. Later, when I became chief at Palmer Lake PD, Charlie volunteered to be our "eyes", monitoring burglary locations during the hours of darkness, when a police car would be easily spotted by crooks. He was, at times, our one man booster association. When I moved on from Palmer Lake, we remained in touch by phone a couple of times a month. He had many great stories from his days in the Army, but a few themes remained constant: He was a devoted, loving, husband and father. He was a patriot who loved his country. He was a quiet professional in the art of war, but he loved his fellow warriors. He loved his community. I do not know, sometimes, how it is we deserve men like Charlie to serve our nation, but we're better for their service. I remain grateful for Charlie's presence in my life. I thank God he stood up for us. I pray Pauline, Steve & Mark and their families will be comforted by many good memories of him. I will miss him.
