Sharing my sincerest condolences to the Doryland family on the homegoing of both Charlie, and also Mary a few years prior. Please pardon the lateness of this post. I only recently learned of Charlie's passing. Oh my goodness, I loved the other post with the memory of Charlie saying, "pray with your eyes open!". I remember that! He also was called upon to teach radio communication etiquette. I guess some were a little too chatty! It would be so hard to find room in this post, to share all the wonderful memories I have of Charlie and Mary Doryland. As fellow volunteers at large ministry events in the 1990's and early 2000's, I had the privilege of serving the Lord with Charlie as my fellow usher. I was always so happy when Don Dean (our equally special event manager) would let me know that he had assigned Charlie to work my side of the stadium with me. Among many other things, Charlie would always work with the local ushers, and make sure they knew their assignments. Charlie and Mary were the same age as my parents (born in '29 and '31), and they were so similar in so many ways ... smart, self made, true grit, very humble, dependable .... the real deal, as the saying goes. They had an authentic Christian faith. I know the Lord blessed me with their example to supplement what might have been lacking in my own parent's Christian development. As an example, when I bought my first home as a young professional, we were all in my home town for a ministry event. I asked Charlie and Mary if they would come pray a blessing over my new home. And they did exactly that. They drove over, prayed over my new home and dedicated it to the Lord. I know the Lord has an amazing servant in Charlie Doryland. His example impacted me as few others have, and it's such a blessing to be reminded of the role model he was to me, and also to learn more of all his accomplishements. What a privilege to have been his friend. I know Heaven is a big place, and Charlie will probably be seated at one of the big tables :), but I hope I have the honor of our paths crossing there as well some day. With Fondest Memories, Cynthia (Flake) Drerup Houston, TX

Charles Doryland was my husband's best friend from age 12. Charles(Chuck as a kid)and Tom learned all they could about the military during World War II. They were 12 years old when it started, both becoming proficient in marching. Chuck has his brothers serving in the service, so the boys kept up on all of the news. I met Chuck in High school and the 3 of us were good friends. Chuck was accepted into West Point when he was a senior in High School. He went on to the Air Force Academy. Served in Korea and Vietnam. He applied for the Space program but was an inch too tall, so he tested new planes in the following years. Wherever either of us happened to be, we got together all over the U.S.in the many years that followed. He stayed with us for 3 weeks in Calif. while he finished off his Masters Degree. Later he retired from the military and taught as a professor. So many good memories and good friendship for so many years, he has been like a brother to me, especially after my husband passed away at 67 from a brain tumor. Mary and Charles visited a few times in Nevada. I am thankful for all for the years of friendship. Happiness is his, as he reunites with his family again. Virginia Massey and family

I remember Charles ‘Charlie' keep telling us, "Pray with your eyes open" - during the crusades - indeed a gentleman. Regardless of the pressure at the Benny Hinn crusades, Charlie saw everything - correct us, always was a smile in his face. Love by all, respected by all. See you later, Charlie.

I met Charles and Mary in Israel in 1996. He was one of 32 bus Captains and he asked me to help him round up the people who wanted to stray so the bus could stay on schedule. We worked together in the ministry for 16 years and we - the three of us - became very good friends. When they moved to Denver I helped them move into their new home and we often had dinner and I spent many hours visiting with them. After Mary passed we tried to have lunch every Thursday. Charles was a true friend that I dearly loved and will miss. Gary Lambert
