Obituary of Robert Lee Card

Robert Lee Card, 92, loving son, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather was born April 5, 1928 in Columbus, Kansas and died on November 24, 2020 in Colorado Springs, Colorado.Bob attended elementary, junior and senior high school in Baxter Springs, Kansas and graduated in 1948. He attended Northern Colorado University in Greeley, Colorado where he received a BA (1951), Master's degree (Speech and Drama, 1955), and Ed.D (Education, 1968).Bob's first job after college was teaching English in Haxtun, Colorado. He then taught for two years in Sterling, Colorado before moving to Colorado Springs to become the director of the Instructional Media Center for School District 11 until his first retirement in 1981. Not being one to embrace retirement, Bob took one more job for two years in educational sales for DMA (Apple computers).Bob married his love, Marjorie Mooney of Haxtun, Colorado on June 12, 1955 in Greeley, Colorado. They were married for sixty-five years! Bob and Marjorie moved from Greeley to Colorado Springs in 1958 and enjoyed the winters in Mesa, Arizona for many years.Bob is survived by his wife, Marjorie; daughter, Valerie; former son-in-law, Gary Roth; son, Stuart and wife, Elizabeth; and former daughter-in-law, Betsy Mills-Card-Panek. They were blessed with five grandchildren, Jason (wife Mami), Tyler (wife Lauren) and Jeremy Roth (Elyse), Dillon Card, and Heather Card-Brown (husband Jeremy). There is one great-granddaughter, Emily Roth, and one more expected. Also his sister-in-law, Alyce Stenson; and cousin, Erma Stover; along with numerous nieces and nephews.Bob's many hobbies and interests included photography, amateur radio, tennis, ping pong, motorcycling, travel, marching band and Dixieland music, and their many trips to the mountains. Bob endlessly showed his caring for others and, with his outgoing personality, he quickly connected with others. He was forever the educator and there was nothing that he enjoyed more than to teach and share his interests with others, which often included tennis, photography, and HAM radio. He was always open to bringing new adventures into his family's life such as travel, motorcycles, and jeeping. Bob faced his battles with dementia, heart surgery, and broken hips with grace and courage while supported and loved by all of his family and dear friends.Bob and Marjorie were members of First Presbyterian Church in Colorado Springs and also attended Gold Canyon United Methodist Church in Gold Canyon, Arizona and the Sunland Springs Chapel.Robert was preceded in death by his father, Vernon L.
