Obituary of James Adron "Chip" Wood, Jr.
James Adron "Chip" Wood, Jr., 67, of Ralph, Alabama, entered the presence of his Savior on November 25, 2020, with family by his side at his daughter's home in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Chip was born on November 2, 1953, in Russellville, Alabama, to James Adron and Betty Wood. Chip was a kindhearted, loving son, husband, brother, father and grandfather who is missed by so many. He graduated from Tuscaloosa County High School in 1972, where he met his lifelong sweetheart, Janis Burns. The two were married on May 10, 1975. Chip graduated from the University of Alabama and eventually settled into a twenty-five year career as an elementary school teacher, greatly impacting the lives of the hundreds of students he taught. After retirement, he shared his time and talents for several years with Baseball Country, a local ministry in the Ralph community. His daughter, Audra, and son, Chris, never doubted that they were loved and that same love was extended to their children in later years. On any given visit, "Granddaddy" would usually be found on the floor, playing with his grandchildren. Chip always put family first and cherished the simple moments in life. He never missed the opportunity to visit family whether it meant a trip to Alabama, West Virginia, Arizona, Indiana or Colorado. He was a humble servant, faithfully caring for both his mother and mother-in-law in their last days. Chip leaves a legacy of love and kindness that will be carried on through all who knew him.Chip is survived by his loving wife of forty-five years, Janis; sister, Johnnye "Chinky" Ellison; daughter and son-in-law, Audra and Tim Falk; son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Kaley Wood; and eight grandchildren, Naomi, Rachel, Sarah, Joanna, Bethany, Tallulah, Shepherd and Marigold.Chip was preceded in death by his parents, James Adron and Betty Wood.A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. The family asks that those who wish to make memorial contributions choose a charity or church of their choice.
