Obituary of James Gary Meyer
James Gary Meyer, 77, of Penrose, Colorado passed away November 27, 2020 in Ca�on City, Colorado.He was born February 20, 1943 to Arthur and Mary Meyer in Jersey City, New Jersey.Jim went to high school at Tenafly High School and graduated in 1961. He went on to earn an associate's degree in automotive from Pikes Peak Community College.Jim worked as a structural foreman for Colorado Springs School District 11 for seventeen years. He also spent thirteen years with the Operating Engineers as a heavy equipment mechanic. He was a licensed A/P mechanic from the Teterboro School of Aeronautics in Teterboro, New Jersey and was involved in the HOGS Pikes Peak Chapter of Harley Davidson, where he participated in Toys for Tots.Jim enjoyed wood working, riding motorcycles, operating his third party testing business for twenty-five years, teaching his grandkids countless lessons, hosting several pig roasts, and sprucing up his property in Penrose.Jim was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle.Jim met the love of his life while at Garth's Restaurant in 1967. They spent fifty-three inseparable years together as a married couple. Their married life resembled a real-life fairytale and offered inspiration to what true love means. As a devoted husband, Jim always put his wife first and made sure that she was loved completely and unconditionally. She will honor his memory daily, especially when she visits their favorite restaurant, El Alazan, in Florence, Colorado.Jim strived to be the best father he could be, and his children will remember the intelligence and creativity that he possessed and the utmost respect he received from others. They hold dear the fact that he was always their biggest supporter and raised them with a passionate and fun-loving demeanor. Jim meant the world to his kids, and they will cherish countless memories of their father.Jim truly touched the lives of his grandchildren in a way that is unique to each of them. They will remember that he was the biggest Mickey Mouse fan and a man of few words, but everything he did say was humorous or encouraging. His grandkids will hold dear the lessons that he taught them from woodworking to welding to driving. He taught them how to be tough as nails and never give up. They will think of him whenever they see their hand-made gifts from him.As an older brother, Jim will be remembered for his eagerness. Jim's brother, Rich, was never a morning person, but always got up at the crack of dawn to go do things with Jim whenever he called.His nephew, Michael, will find comfort in looking back on the times he helped mow the lawn as a kid, and the times Jim made him, and his family, feel special when picking apples on the property in Penrose.Jim is loved and will be missed by his wife, children, grandchildren, brother, brother and sister in-laws, many nieces and nephews, and countless friends.He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Mary Meyer.Jim is survived by his wife, Melva Meyer of Penrose, Colorado; son, James G. Meyer, Jr. of Colorado Springs; daughter, Julie Fischer of Colorado Springs; his five grandchildren, Ashley Meyer, Samantha Fischer, Caylea Meyer, Tyler Fischer and Christopher Meyer; brother, Richard Meyer; nephew, Michael Meyer and his family; his brother-in-laws, Bob (Janice) Daugherty and Tom (Janet) Daugherty; and sister-in-law, Marcia Schick.Memorial contributions in Jim's memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association, https://diabetes.orgThe family wishes to extend their gratitude to St. Thomas More Hospital's ICU nurses for the loving care and comfort they provided to Jim and Melva.Celebration of Life, 11:00AM, Wednesday, December 16, 2020, Heart of the Springs Church, 2726 North Union Boulevard, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80909.The family will have a private Graveside Service.
