Obituary of Thomas Wright Ortman

Thomas Wright Ortman, 83, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, died on December 19, 2020.He was born to Charles and Ruth (Vest) Ortman on February 8, 1937, in Omaha, Nebraska.Tom graduated from Creighton Preparatory School. He went on to earn a bachelor's degree in Philosophy from Rockhurst University. Tom served his country proudly in the Army and became a Green Beret, Special Forces. His sister, Nancy, described him as being brave and daring. He also became a paratrooper and often spoke of this experience years later with his wife and children.After the Army, Tom moved to New York City where he met his wife, Maggie (n�e Walsh). Maggie came to the United States from Scotland. He simply adored her and that never lessened throughout their fifty-four years of marriage. They have three children, Catherine Ortman, James Ortman and Mary (George) Yang; and two grandchildren, Matthew Thomas Yang, and Ashley Barerra.Tom and his family eventually made their way to Colorado. Once Tom laid eyes on Pikes Peak, he decided that is where they would make their home. Throughout the years, Tom spent many glorious days running and hiking up Pikes Peak. He also loved to explore various trails throughout Colorado Springs.Tom always remained a huge Nebraska Cornhusker fan. He enjoyed watching the football games with his son, James, and his brother, Charles, both in person and over the phone.Tom enjoyed a long career in real estate where he met several of his close friends. Everyone who knew Tom has described him as one of the kindest people they have ever known. He was a true role model in every area of his life. He didn't just hold his own beliefs, he lived them with conviction.Tom had a beautiful faith in God and his faith guided his life. His children and wife adored him. He was a hard worker, but was never too busy to push everything aside to guide his family and offer comfort in times of need. He always reminded us that the good in the world will always outweigh everything else.He is preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; his brother-in-law, Jerry Ryan; sister-in-law, Mary McCormack (n�e Walsh); niece, Dana Ortman; and nephew, Johnny Ortman.Tom is survived by his wife; children; son-in-law; grandchildren; as well as his sister, Nancy Ryan; brother, Charles (Jeanne) Ortman; sisters-in-law, Nora Lotto (n�e Walsh), Kathleen Parks (n�e Walsh), and Geraldine Dean (n�e Walsh); brother-in-law, Reverend Leo Walsh; and several nieces and nephews.Rosary, 10:15AM, Memorial Mass immediately following, 11:00AM, Wednesday, January 6, 2021, Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 2318 North Cascade Avenue, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80907.
