Obituary of Paul William Craig

Honolulu, Hawaii - Paul Craig, 65, was received by the Lord on December 31, 2020 after a long battle with cancer. He was born on September 30, 1955 in Flint, Michigan, son of Ronald and Dorothy (Rossman) Craig. Paul excelled at just about everything he put his mind to since a young age. He saved money from his paper route to take flying lessons, and earned his pilot's license at the time he graduated from Flint Central High School in 1973. After high school, he attended the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado where he studied engineering and math until his graduation in 1977. During his military service, Paul flew medical evacuation aircrafts. In 1993, he earned a master's degree in electrical and computer science engineering from the University of Colorado Boulder. His employment with Raytheon, as a radar engineer, allowed him to travel and live in various parts of the world. That path led him to make Hawaii his home, where he worked for solar energy companies as their chief electrical engineer. He was always athletic. In high school Paul participated in track, cross country, and basketball. Living on islands allowed him to run, bike, and swim daily which served as training for the Ironman Triathlon which he competed in, and finished, in 1996 at the age of 41. As a follower of Christ, he was very involved with his church, and his men's bible study group. He helped install solar panels for his church, and served in developing countries on mission trips. Political news, swimming, flying, and renewable energy engineering were some of his varied interests. He was known for being a hard worker, having a quirky sense of humor, and always willing to lend a helping hand. Paul loved life and was a fighter to the very end.Left to cherish his memory is his mother, Dorothy Craig of Flint, Michigan; sister, Sandra Craig (Tom Sumner) of Davison, Michigan; stepmother, Carol Craig of Grand Blanc, Michigan; stepsister, Linda Robertson of Spring, Texas; stepbrother, Mark McCubbin (Papiya) of Northville, Michigan; aunt, Doris Lyerly of Olney, Maryland; uncles, James Craig (Shirley) of Burton, Michigan and Vernon Craig (Patricia) of Davison, Michigan; cousins; niece and nephews; many special close friends; and his partner, Amy Fujishige.
