Obituary of Ronald "Ron" Jack McEwan

Have you heard the story about the blind guy who drove a car? He was the same guy who rode bikes, told his nephew the color of his shirt by feel, commuted through downtown Dallas on his own, studied Greek and Hebrew, rebuilt computers by hand, went white water rafting and could always give you directions no matter where you were in Colorado Springs. We are here to tell you that the stories are all true. Ronald Jack McEwan was born on March 21, 1956, to Robert and Joan McEwan in Sheridan, Wyoming. The firstborn of five, he was the most experienced leader of the McEwan children's shenanigans and the most skilled in navigating his mother's Christmas booby traps. While he was the responsible older brother, he wasn't afraid to beat up anyone who dared to bully his sisters. In middle and high school, Ron dabbled in several sports at the Colorado School for the Deaf and Blind, and was known for being one of their best wrestlers with a 30-1 season that ended after a broken collarbone. At church, he would wrestle any challenger on the front lawn. It was in the church that he fell in love with God and, later in his youth, Pamela, who would become his lifelong companion and love. Ron and Pam were married in 1982.In the 80s, Ron experimented with many things, particularly his sense of vocation and also permed hair. After several disappointments in seminary and church work, Ron discovered work that challenged his intellect and stimulated his curiosity in computer programming. Still, he could never shake his love for scripture and the Church. Throughout his life, he spent countless hours leading Sunday school classes, small groups, training youth ministry volunteers and preaching. Studying and teaching scripture was his lifelong passion. To his children, Ron was a constant source of support and wisdom, even if he wouldn't allow them to buy the cheap plastic sneakers with lights. Ron found great joy in recent years becoming "Grandpa." He was a fiercely loyal friend, known for his spontaneous phone calls to share trivia questions and offer gentle words of encouragement and comfort. Most of all, Ron will be remembered as faithful. He was faithful to his God, family and friends.Ron, age 64, died on Wednesday, March 17, 2021.He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Joan McEwan.Ron is survived by his wife, Pamela McEwan; his children, Melesa McEwan (Erik) Skoglund and Micah (Sarah) McEwan; his grandsons, Ryan and Truett; his siblings, Marge McGee, Kathy McEwan, Helen Wrinkle and Mike McEwan; and so many others who loved and were loved by Ron.Memorial Service, 4:00PM, Friday, April 9, 2021, Woodmen Valley Chapel, 280 East Woodmen Road, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80919.
