I had the joy and honor of getting to support Tricia & Chris during the birth of Evelyn. Chris is one of the proudest and most enthusiastic dads I have ever met, and I still smile when I think of his attentiveness, exuberance, and loving spirit. He has given his girls a foundation of love and acceptance that will guide them through the rest of their lives.

Tricia, I don't know if you remember me (Beth Kilmer) we were on the same freshman hall at Grove City. I am so sorry for your loss. I, too, have daughters, the oldest is named Norah, so I feel a connection with you through that. I am praying for you and your daughters, to know and be comforted by the true and faithful presence of Jesus.

Chris was both a friend and a mentor from back when he was youth pastor at Forcey in 2008-2012. It was a privilege to serve under his leadership. He was such a great friend in that time. We began a tradition of having breakfast together at the Panera on Tech Road near Forcey. Our conversations would stretch far past an hour. I still go to that same Panera. It's my best spot for deep thinking about ministry - a habit crafted with Chris. I think about him often, and the honest pursuit of Christ and ministry we shared there. The thick connection of memory and place abound. As a young seminary student serving under him at Forcey, Chris gave me so much freedom to develop my own gifts. He invited me into new opportunities and was selfless in this regard. He believed in the substance of my gifts. And after he moved on from Forcey he was so encouraging to me as I followed him in his footsteps. I always felt like I had big shoes to fill. Chris probably didn't think of it this way, but I did. Chris blazed a path of honest youth ministry that focused on the unchanging Word of God and not the fads all too common in the youth ministry of that time. He was a friend of substance - humble, honest, funny, and caring. After Chris moved on from Forcey in 2012, we stayed in touch periodically over the next years. He blessed me with the opportunity to do some curriculum writing for Awana, and I was touched by his confidence in me. Had I wanted to pursue that path further, he would have been a tremendous advocate and mentor, just as he was for me at Forcey. I wish I had stayed in touch with him more recently. Moments like this strike that somber chord. As I sit in this same Panera at a table we would often share, I stare off and remember Chris's inimitable laugh and smile, and his clever wit. But most of all I am filled with the faint longing for an old friend, and the cold realities of this sin-stained world of struggle and pain. But I am also filled with a keen awareness that in our sadness Chris, were he present, would gently remind us that we were created for a better reality - one He is now experiencing with his Savior. Tricia Marchand, many are in prayer for you and your precious daughters. I'm so sorry for your loss.

I will remember Chris as a gifted communicator and a favorite speaker for Awana AMCs. He was so bright and had a life-long love of learning. What I will remember too is the great love he had for his family...the charming stories about the girls and Tricia. He will be missed by all of us. May God be near in these coming days. We knew Chris while he was the youth pastor at Forcey Church in MD. His love for the Lord and for the youth at Forcey made our kids excited to go to church each Sunday. Chris was always full of joy. His life has made a lasting impact on our family.

I wanted to extend my sympathies to to the family of Chris. From the memories that have been shared here he seems to be a wonderful person to know. I know no words of mine will ease the sorrow but I like to offer the prayer below. "Eternal rest grant into him O Lord, and let the perpetual light shine upon him. May the souls of the faithful depart, through the mercy of God, Rest In Peace. Amen"

I met Chris online in our discussion forum of which he was an active part last week. His passion for learning, for research, and a commitment biblical truth was readily evident. I looked forward to growing to know him and his family. He is now promoted to glory and in the presence of the Lord. David Abraham, his Prof. at EDUC734.
