Obituary of MSG John Gilbert Schnurrenberger, U.S. Army,

John G. Schnurrenberger, 69, of Colorado Springs, died in a tragic rock climbing accident July 5, 2021. He was born on May 12, 1952 in Lafayette, Indiana to the late Leroy Wayne and Willa Dean Schnurrenberger.John was raised primarily in Indiana and Maryland. After high school, he was determined to beat the draft and so when his number was called up, he decided to enlist in the Army to "outsmart" the system and was assigned to Ft. Carson in Colorado Springs. John served a total of thirty-two years in both the Army and Army National Guard as a communications lineman, an 18C Special Forces Engineer, and a 18E Special Forces Communications Sergeant. John served one tour in Afghanistan and one in Iraq. He retired as a Green Beret Master Sergeant E9 and was awarded The Bronze Star, a Combat Infantry Badge, Halo Wings, and a Master Parachutist Badge, amongst others.On top of his military service, John was a highly respected Journeyman Electrician and a member of the local IBEW, where after retiring, he continued to assist his union brothers in creating various classes in teaching the lost electrical arts.Above all, John was a devoted family man; married to Patricia Schnurrenberger for forty-seven years, a loving father to his daughter, Sacha, and his son, Clint Schnurrenberger, and the greatest grandfather/playmate to his granddaughter, Isabela.John was a avid outdoorsman, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, rock climbing, hiking, and skiing. He loved reading, watching classic TV shows, and music. Always the storyteller, he loved to sit for hours recalling adventures and happenings for family and friends.John is survived by his wife, Patricia; children, Sacha and Clint; granddaughter, Isabela; brothers, Douglas and Daniel; and a slew of nieces, nephews, and cousins.Graveside Service, 3:00PM, Friday, July 16, 2021, Fort Logan National Cemetery, 3698 South Sheridan Boulevard, Denver, Colorado 80235.
