My family was fortunate enough to be neighbors with the Schnurrenbergers in the early years and I knew John to be a loving husband, a great dad, a wonderful neighbor and an exemplary citizen. The family has lost a shining star and the world has lost a faithful and good man. Much love to you Pat, Sascha (and your daughter) Clint and to all who will miss John.

Hello John, I am saddened to be typing these words but heartened that there are people in the world like you. Too far and few between! Your willingness to help and offer advice, always good, and to always make Tom wait while you offered it has always been much appreciated. Sharing a beer with you two in the pub was always a great privilege. Never a sour or unkind word. Always a smile. Wisdom and that beautiful mustache... I will walk into the gym and always think of you and Tom. Shit, I'm gonna miss you.

I am so sorry for your family's loss. May Gods loving hand help heal your sorrow and touch your heart with the peace only he can. My family is praying for all of you. John was the nicest Green Beret I have ever known. He would always volunteer for any job no matter how trivial. He was also one of the best mountain climbers I've ever known and a damn good Commo guy. I had the honor to be on the same team as John for many years. We starved together, went without showers, sweat our butts off in Louisiana and climbed with the Koreans. We went to Korea in the late summer of 1999 for a training exercise with the 7th ROK (Republic of Korea) Brigade. John being the dutiful Commo guy he carried the secret crypto to make the radios work. John made sure that it was transported the right way, double envelope in a locked brief case with a three-digit code on each lock. Unfortunately, John forgot the combination. Undaunted and unprompted John brought the locked brief case on the 5-mile run (approximately) we did with our Korean counterparts. The Koreans were perplexed. "Why is he bringing the brief case on the run in a backpack?" We didn't want to tell them we had forgotten the combination, so we said it was punishment for doing something wrong. John took it all in stride and through a lot of effort tried every possible combination until he was able to unlock the briefcase. He later used that crypto to make a communication shot with another team that was in Alaska. High Frequency (HF) radio skipping off the ionosphere from Korea to Alaska, that is roughly 3,286 miles! He was awesome at everything! I will miss you, John! Gods Speed DOL, Weed

John Schnurrenberger was as fine a man as I have ever known. We spent many unforgettable days hiking, climbing, and laughing together under the cloudless blue skies of Colorado. He was a true friend and wise enough to sit and listen respectfully to whatever you had to say, even when he probably knew much more about what you were talking about than you did. When I think of John, I will always remember his wonderful smile, and his genuine willingness to do absolutely anything he could to help you. The last time we spoke he made that offer clear to me once again. It was an honor and a privilege to have known John and called him my good friend. I am saddened by his loss more than words can express; however, I am heartened by the knowledge that someday we will be together again.

John remains to this very day, my favorite foreman I have ever had. He shared his pictures and videos of some of the cool things he had done in his life. I will never forget the time he brought in his climbing gear to run some pipe over the wall where we were having a tough time reaching. To me, he was an expert in everything I was interested in. Military, guns, electrical work, hands down the manliest man I know. I remember also at his retirement party I told him I was making rank in the Air Force and was expressing to him that I was nervous. He spent some time with me giving some advice about leadership and said I would be fine. I respect John, love John, and miss him terribly. Thanks for teaching me the Prussick!

John was a very special man who is gone too soon. Although an accomplished and decorated soldier, he was a kind and gentle spirit to all who knew him. John had a thoughtful and calm demeanor. And he was a great storyteller. I loved hearing about his dad being a country vet and John's family being surrounded by animals when he was growing up. I never saw John upset and I never heard an unkind word out of his mouth. He was someone who lived in the moment and enjoyed every bit of it. He was often smiling or laughing and it was contageous! I spent many weekends hiking with John and Tom O'Bryan. We would end the day "rehydrating" at a brewery or two. And we had many discussions about how to solve the world's problems. I will miss John very much. My thoughts are with Pat and Clint and Sacha and the rest of his family and friends. Rest In Peace my friend. Photo courtesy Tom O'Bryan I'm struggling and not happy John is enjoying the moment

A very good soldier. Tactically and technically proficient. He could be trusted to be there when he was needed. A fine man. When our family member needed help, he helped without hesitation. I am sure he will be missed by all that knew him. John, "Keep the wind in your face, the sun on your back, family and friends at both sides until you cross the Great Divide, and we meet again." God Bless your family. John Bartlett
