I worked with Johnny for three years at Falcon middle School. I haven't taught at that school for over ten years, but I think of Johnny often because he made such an impression on me. Whenever I had a tricky time with a student I would give Johnny a nod and he would wrap his arm around the kid and say, "Hey, I have a special job for you to do for me." He gave them some task, but also gave them love, attention, and extra coaching on how to be successful in class. To me, it felt that Johnny was the heartbeat of the school. The eye to redirect a kid trying to get away from something, a bright smile that made your day, and always, always a positive word of encouragement. I am constantly inspired to interact with the people around me with such pride, confidence, and love. You will be missed.

I worked with Johnny at Falcon Middle School. The impact he made on me as a colleague and coaching my son in football/wrestling were so impactful it's hard to put into words. I remember he brought his granddaughter to work one afternoon. He walked with a special grandpa swagger. So many great memories…Heaven got a real good one when Mr. Grimaldi arrived!!

I worked with Johnny at Falcon Middle School for 6 years. Johnny was always a sweet and a positive person. He always referred to his coworkers respectfully as young lady or young man. I will never forget his phrase, which I always shared with my children. He would point to his heart and say " It's the size of your heart that matters." Johnny certainly lived by that phrase. He had a big loving brave heart. His love for his wife and family was always evident in Johnny. Thank you for your friendship Johnny! Rest in power my friend. Melinda Rogers

Johnny "Sweet," Grimaldo and I worked together, at Coronado High School, as Campus Security Officers, from November 1994 until August 2004. I called Johnny "Sweet Johnny," because he was a handsome young looking man, I was protective of him, and female students would always try to get next to him. Of course, I ran them off, told the students he was married, and he ignored them. Johnny and I had great times protecting students and staff from intruders. We enjoyed searching students, in the presence of School Administrators, for suspicious behavior and violation of school policies. Johnny was an avid wrestler, wrestling coach, and his beloved wife (Loretta) and he kept score at wrestling events regularly. Johnny, Loretta, and I remained very, very close friends until his passing. May God continue blessing and providing solace, to Mrs. Loretta Grimaldo, and their loving children during this time of bereavement. Johnny, Rest in Peace my dear friend! Eddie Grant, Jr.

I have many fond memories of Johnny. I remember him coming out for wrestling as a 7th grader at Sabin Junior High, Lorretta was an 8th grader and was the manager for the wrestling team for next two years. Who knew that this would be the start of long partnership. Watching him grow as a wrestler, although he was a natural and talented from the beginning, was rewarding. I enjoyed watching him grow as a coach and sharing his passion with many young wrestlers. I remember him "throwing out his shoulder", punching the air, in sheer excitement as he watched one of his wrestlers win a big match. Periodically over the years I would see Johnny in different places and he would still call me Coach or Mister Butler even though he was now a man himself. Johnny was even able to coach my son, as they both gave track a try at Russell. Lorretta and family, my condolences to all of you. I hope you are able to find God's peace and comfort at this time and in the difficult times ahead. Johnny you will be missed but not forgotten. Michael (Coach) Butler
