Obituary of David Lee Parkin

David Lee Parkin, 62, of Colorado Springs, Colorado passed away September 10, 2021 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was born March 8, 1959 to Don and Gwenn Parkin in Minneapolis, Minnesota.Dave attended high school at Robbinsdale and graduated in 1977. He went on to earn a vocational degree in Ranch Management from Rawhide Ranch Cowboy College in Bonsall California. Dave worked as a Horseman many years. David spent more than thirty years as a consultant in the lighting industry along with his business partner and friend Martin Young, owner and operator of Bulbs Plus Inc. In 2017 David began his own consulting career in lighting and energy efficiency. He aspired to gain knowledge and understanding of year-round in-door food growth in hopes of someday being able to train others to do the same; using available resources in cooperation with area cities and towns. David saw this endeavor through the eyes of wisdom, knowing in his heart that such would not only fill a need; it had the potential to make money for all involved thus furthering the endeavor to its fullness. Davey's oldest dreams were that of one day having his own Horse and Youth Ministry Ranch expounding on and in the knowledge and love of God as being the greatest and most powerful gift to mankind. Davey spent much of his youth involved in the Evangelical Christian church, along with spending summers at Camp Shamineau in Motley Minnesota. He was immersed in Biblical education, praise, outdoor activities, and horses. Davey excelled especially in the area of horses, helping to build and expand their Horsemanship program, including draft horse team driving and early rodeo events. There he also took up the craft of Ferrier (horse hoof care and shoeing.) He enjoyed music, horses, rodeo, and family. He enjoyed singing, dancing, and all things cowboy. Dave received standing ovations when he played on stage. His love for adventure was only surpassed by his love for his family. Love, laughter, and life all can be attributed to Davey. He is preceded in death by his wife and friend of nineteen years, Cathy Parkin; surrogate dad and friend, Martin Young; nephew, Nic Gomez; and surrogate son, Derek Dickey.Dave is survived by his wife, Deborah of Colorado; parents, Don Parkin of Minnesota and Gwenn Young of Colorado; daughter, Lindsey (Bobby) Strand and her two children, Remi and Nova; siblings, Dan Parkin of Idaho, Renee Gwen of Minnesota, Dennis Parkin of Colorado; numerous nieces, nephews; David's surrogate family who lovingly referred to him as Saba (Hebrew for great grandfather), Marissa and Lynnie Blackman, Brandon Daniel, aka Brandson, wife, Cheyenne; granddaughters, Nevaeh and Eva; great-grandson, Noah Russell Keiley; and his surrogate son, James Dickey.A very spiritual man, Dave was involved in Christian activities his entire life, lending his song, enthusiasm, leadership. His light, laughter, loyalty was visible to everyone who came to know him and will continue to live on.
