Obituary of Louis Harl Baskett

Louis Harl Baskett, 90, passed away on September 18, 2021, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was born October 29, 1930, in Copeland, Kansas to Wilma Smith Baskett and Thomas Lee Baskett. Louis spent his childhood in Copeland and Dodge City, Kansas then Limon, Colorado. He attended Limon Public Schools and graduated high school from Wentworth Military Academy, Lexington, Missouri. He completed junior college and ROTC training at Wentworth then transferred to Colorado A&M (Colorado State University) and finally Kansas State University where he majored in agricultural studies. While attending Kansas State University, Louis met and married Kathryn Lee Jury May 27, 1953, in Topeka, Kansas. The couple moved to Ft. Benning, Georgia in 1955, where Louis completed training at OCS and was commissioned to active duty as a 1st Lieutenant in the Army. His first duty station was at Ft. Carson, Colorado. Louie served active duty in Korea and later in the Reserve Officer Corps. In 1962, he received his honorable discharge from the United States Army.After the service, Louis lived with his wife and three daughters in Limon, Colorado where he owned and operated a family farm and ranch. After retiring from farming, he moved first to Grand Junction, Colorado where he worked for the National Forest Service, then to Colorado Springs where he enjoyed his work with Avis Car Rental. Louis is survived by his brother, Thomas Lee (Gertrude) Baskett, Jr. of Cedar Ridge, Colorado; his daughters, Diana (Don) Tarver of Salina, Kansas, Cara (Kevin) Sadler of Sherwood, Arkansas, and Leslie (Mark) Schopp of Colorado Springs; his five grandchildren, John (Vanessa) Sadler , Aaron Tarver, Matthew Tarver, Janelle Sadler Woodall, Lynsie (Jon) Stevens; his eleven great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; and many others who called him "Grandpa Louie".
