Dear Russels, Karla and Jay and Ronnie's wife who I have been told by Karla that she was an Angel. I know all of you are grieving and I hope in time it will all be just the happy memories that keep you going. Karla and Ronnie were away so much during his career, but I was so impressed how Ronnie served his country and rose through the ranks to be a Green Beret. I wish I had gotten to know him better. I have learned more from Karla. Jay I know how hard it is to lose a Father and I will be praying for you. Love to all of you Jim and Janet Welbourn

Russell family, I am very sorry for your loss. Uncle Ronnie gave me nothing but positive memories about him from the times of my childhood. I remember one of my prize possessions was one of the green berets he sent me and Robert. I used to wear that thing so proudly as a kid all the time at home and while playing with the neighborhood kids. I was very sad to hear of his passing but I can only imagine the reunion he and Kyla must be having. Aunt Karla and Jay, stay strong. Our thoughts are with you and we love you.

I met Ronnie and Karla in 1975 after my first husband was stationed at Ft.Bragg. Ronnie loved his family and serving in the military. He spent his time taking courses to enhance his career. In his free time he enjoyed working with his hands and building furniture. A few years later Ronnie and Karla welcomed their son, Jay and daughter,Kyla into their lives. Ronnie was a loving and supportive husband and father. I praise God for the opportunity to have met them and I enjoyed spending time with them. I know that the passing of a loved one is very painful, so I'm praying for the family. May the Lord give you peace and comfort. Blessings, Kay Wheelock

But I do believe that Kayla was there to receive him When we were young your mom and dad and Jerry and I went out together all most every weekend. My dear Karla , I am so very sorry about your loss to . You know I'm always there if you need to talk to . I love you and always well❤️

From my earliest memories as a kid growing up in the 80s watching G.I. Joe, my Uncle Ronnie, the Green Beret, was my hero. We rarely saw him in person throughout my childhood years, as they lived all over the country as well as in Germany, and Uncle Ronnie was often deployed as well. One of the greatest Christmas presents I ever got was an actual green beret from my Uncle, that I proudly wore everywhere I went. When I got accepted to attend the US Air Force Academy, in Colorado Springs, it just so happened that he had been recently stationed in the springs and so I had family 15 min away from USAFA when I was away from home for the first time in my life. Uncle Ronnie was my only living family member that served in the military, and who I could talk to about the challenges and struggles I was going through. He was a great listener and offered valuable advice, and was sort of a surrogate father to me at a time when I needed it. Later, having lost both of my grandfathers a few months apart, and with my parents at home going through a painful divorce, I came to live with Uncle Ronnie and Aunt Karla, and Jay and Kyla for several months. It was a very difficult time in my life, and I was taken care of like family, and had a family structure in my life when I needed it, with my cousins more like siblings. Ronnie was like a father to me during a very challenging time in my life. I never got the chance to tell him how thankful I was, and really didn't realize it until years later, why I made it through that period in my life. I hope I wasn't too much of a burden on the family, and didn't intrude too much on Jay's and Kyla's teenage years. I have so many fond memories of that time, when I was struggling in my life, but had my family there to keep me on my feet. Jay, your Dad meant so much to me at such a crucial time in my life. Although we haven't talked in years, my memories of him are still so vivid today. I'm sorry to hear of his health declining in recent years and of his passing. I know that he is loved and he is missed, and he is now with Kyla in Heaven. I wish I could be there to pay my respects, but you are in my prayers. My deepest condolences.
