Obituary of Carl Frederick White

On the morning of October 15, 2021, Carl F. White went home, making the world a little less bright for his loss. He left behind him his loving wife, Eileen; three adoring children, Sean, Moira, and Tara; eight grandchildren; and many friends and family. Carl was born on June 1, 1935 in Erie, Pennsylvania. A boy of the woods and shores of Lake Erie, he grew up camping, hunting, and fishing. At fifteen, he established himself as a more than capable mechanic when he put together his first car from junkyard parts. In high school, he was a football star and did all-state water polo. After high school, he was drafted into the army, thus beginning a career that would largely define him: he was an Airborne Ranger and a Green Beret. Carl volunteered for three tours in Vietnam with the Special Forces and served his country for twenty-one years. In addition to being a master mechanic, Carl was a master craftsman: after work and on weekends, for a span of a year, he built a beautiful home for his family in Black Forest which became a place of warm welcome for all. After retiring from the army, Carl worked as a power generation supervisor at the Evan US Army Community Hospital for over twenty years. Carl was a man's man, a man of honor and integrity, a one-of-a-kind storyteller, a lover of history and poetry, joyful, full of life, honest, unpretentious, a wonderful husband, father, and friend.
