Sandra, John, and family....my sincerely condolences for the the loss of your father, grandfather. I pray God comforts your grieving hearts. I will cherish the times your father and Sandy joined me in worshipping our Almighty Father at Calvary of Rio Grande Valley and the times I enjoyed his company at John and Sandy in Bosque Farms. As a kid and now his son Kevin has been my best friend. I have very fond memories of spending the weekends on sleep overs at their house in Men Riv (Navy Housing) and Master Chief had extreme patience in dealing with us kids having a great time playing games and being kids. A very kind and understanding man is how I will always remember Master Chief Richards. Fair Winds and Following Seas Master Chief, you stand relieved and we now have the watch.

It was an honor to have you as a father-in-law and shipmate, both in heart and at sea. I'm thankful for the opportunity to become friends, as my father would say "you can pick your friends but you can't pick your family. I treasure the moments and memories visiting each other and traveling together. For the good family times and your rapport with my grandmother, whose picture still hangs in your kitchen. I remember your quip, "we old people have to stick together, look out for each other," and admire you for never failing to ask about my mom, elderly neighbors and family you had met. I will always remember and cherish our conversations, and your stories, about your life, family and childhood on Nantucket Island. Fishing with your father, helping shuck scallops and deer hunting the island with your shotgun. Your enlistment in the Navy, moving to Connecticut where you met the love of your life, and leaving the day after your wedding with orders to go to sea. I would like to thank both you and your wife's dedication and service to our country for giving, as a team, 37 years of military service while raising a family of six. All of the stories, some forgotten, some renewed with family reflection, are just a few in your near century long stay here on earth. In celebration of Frank's life, while grieving my loss, I can only hope that as an islander, fisherman, and sailor his stories got better and better with age, because he did. Thoughts of others whom Frank may have thought apropos. "Of all the branches of men in the forces there is none which shows more devotion and faces grimmer perils than the submariners."
