Obituary of Kenneth "Ken" Lawrence Rae

Kenneth Lawrence Rae passed away at the age of 64, on January 8, 2022 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was born January 9, 1957 to Robert and May Rae in Toronto, Ontario. Ken went to West Humber Collegiate Institute and graduated in 1977. Ken married his high school sweetheart, Kathryn Young, on October 27, 1979. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1980 in Vancouver, British Colombia. He flew fighters and went on to have an exciting flying career with the Canadian Forces Snowbird Team. One of the highlights was flying in the Opening Ceremony for the Calgary Olympics in 1988. In 1989 he was stationed at NORAD in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He retired from the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1994 and went on to fly for Southwest Airlines in 1996. He flew for Southwest Airlines for twenty-five years as a Captain, Check Airmen, and Assistant Chief Pilot. He enjoyed playing music, hockey, golf, investing, and was an avid Toronto Maple Leafs fan. Most importantly, he was a devoted husband, father to his four children, and Bapa to his fifteen grandchildren. Ken is preceded in death by his father and mother, Robert and May Rae. He is survived by his wife, Kathy Rae, of forty-two years; his children, Krysha and Justin Jamis, Adam and Kristi Rae, Kayla and Anthony McMurtry, Kenna Rae and Gavin MacKenzie; as well as his fifteen grandchildren. He is survived by his brother and sister and his four nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Ken's honor to the USO which he worked closely with during his time at Southwest Airlines (USO.org).
