To the best son-in-law ever!

Michael was the best son-in-law a mother could hope for. As a mother of a daughter, you always hope she will find a good man, one who will love her unconditionally, protect her, and be a good father to their children. Michael was all of that and more! The first time I met Michael was when he came to the house to take Megan out. I was changing the locks on the doors and Michael told Megan to wait so he could finish the locks for me. After that he always asked what he could do to help. He had a great sense of humor, often being the one to laugh the hardest at whatever he had said or done to crack up everyone else. One of the moments I will never forget is when Michael (finally, after many years together) decided to propose to Megan. Being a single mom, Michael came to ask my permission to marry Megan. I was so impressed by that! He also told me ahead of time when he was going to propose. Thank goodness!! Because after he proposed, Megan called and was screaming on the phone. If I had not known Michael was proposing that evening, I would have thought she had been in a car accident! She was so excited! I knew they would be together forever because they were always so supportive and in love with each other. On their wedding day, they were both grinning ear to ear and you could see the future in their eyes. When Mark was born, Michael was so proud and he always loved showing Mark how to build things and tinker in his garage "man cave." And when Samantha was born, Michael was over the moon! He loved doing things with his kids, with Michael being the biggest kid of all. He dressed up every Halloween and continued to wear the beanies from his costumes throughout the year. I would often find him working in his garage with his Donald Duck beanie on his head! Throughout his battle with cancer, he remained positive. He fought such a hard fight, wanting to be there for his wife and kids. At one point, when the cancer was winning, he apologized to me for letting down Megan and his kids, saying he felt he had set them up for failure as he wouldn't be there for them. I assured him that he had not disappointed anyone and that Megan and the kids would be fine thanks to all he had done. He has left such a huge hole in our hearts! Until we see him again, his spirit will always be with us and my grandkids will be his legacy. I am the luckiest mother-in-law ever to have had the years we shared as family!
