Obituary of Lonnie "Joe" Lentz
Lonnie "Joe" Lentz, age 70, of Colorado Springs, Colorado passed away quietly at home on February 7, 2022 surrounded by his loved ones after a valiant battle with cancer.� Joe was born on�July 20, 1951�in Pueblo, Colorado to Ivan and Ramona Lentz. He graduated from Pueblo South High and soon after joined the�U.S. Army.� He bravely served eighteen months in the�Vietnam War as a helicopter door gunner with the 114th Aviation Division (Red Knights) during military service from 1969-1972. While stationed in Texas during his service, he met and married the love of his life, Kathryn A. Walther on�July 24, 1971 in Thrall, Texas.�They remained married for fifty wonderfully "adventurous" years until his passing.�After forty-one years of service with the Federal Government, Joe retired from the U.S. Air Force Academy as a Logistics Specialist in 2020.�Joe was a man of great integrity and had a heart as big as the�sun. He enjoyed volunteering in his free time, whether it was with the�Lutheran�Church where he assisted with Hurricane Katrina clean-up, or the Black Forest Fire where he helped cut and clear damaged trees. He never hesitated to help anyone in need, neighbors, friends or strangers, it did not matter.�He was just happy to help.He is preceded in death by his parents, Ivan and Ramona Lentz; and his sister, Lorraine "Babe" Hoover.Joe is survived by his wife, Kathy Lentz; daughter, Melissa (Larry) Davis; son, Michael (Susan) Lentz; grandchildren, Mason Davis, and Adria (Tony) Marquez; brother, Larry (Judy) Lentz of Aurora, Colorado; sister, Linda (Terry) Boatwright of South Carolina;�as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, countless friends; and best friend, Howie.A Celebration of Joe's life will be held 1:00PM-4:00PM, Friday,�February 25, 2022, Patty Jewett Golf Course, 900 East Espanola Street, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80907.�He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
