Obituary of MSgt Daniel Carr Benton,, U.S. Air Force, Sr.

Daniel Carr Benton, 86, of Colorado Springs, passed away on Monday, May 30, 2022 in his home in Colorado Springs, Colorado.Daniel was born on January 18, 1936 to tenant farmers Archie and Lula in North Carolina.Daniel was blessed with a loving family. He met his wife to be, Lois in Panama City, Florida while he was stationed at Tyndall Air Force base. They married on December 17, 1960. Their romance lasted forty-six years and was blessed with four wonderful children, and seven grandchildren.Daniel had many hobbies. When he was younger he played sports with his four sons, and even coached their little league team. He was always very active and enjoyed skiing, running marathons with his sons like the Pikes Peak Marathon and the Garden of the Gods Marathon. He's favorite hobby however was playing cards in cripple creek. After he retired in 2007 you could find him in cripple creek six days a week playing blackjack and Texas Hold'em. He also enjoyed watching any and all sports and was a big fan of the Denver Broncos, the Rockies, and the Denver Nuggets. Daniel also enjoyed watching westerns especially if they had John Wayne in them. He also enjoyed Johnny Cash "the man in black" and often wore black shirts. His favorite drink was Jim Beam and coke and his favorite food was fried chicken. He would get fried chicken often and have picnics with his family.Daniel joined the United States Air Force in 1956 in North Carolina. He started working in radar and air traffic control. He retired in 1982 and then went on to work civil service and eventually ended up at NORAD where he worked in missile warning/test control for several years.Daniel was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lois; his father, Archie; his mother, Lula; and nine older brothers and sisters. He is survived by his sons, Daniel, Jr., Michael, William, and James "Chris"; and his seven grandchildren, Daniel III, Rachel, Natalie, Elizabeth, Naomi, Sophia and Katya.Visitation, 1:00PM-3:00PM, Wednesday, June 8, 2022, The Springs Funeral Services, 3115 East Platte Avenue, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80909.Graveside Service, 1:00PM, Friday, July 22, 2022, Pikes Peak National Cemetery, 10545 Drennan Road, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80925.
