She was born December 5, 1991 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and is survived by her mother, Allison Towe of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and father, Everett Schilling of Alburnett, Iowa.Leigh spent her early years living on the farm tending to her pets and horses. She loved Oliver tractors, swing sets and spending her time with family and friends.Moving to Colorado in the late 1990s, she attended Woodmen Roberts Elementary, Eagleview Middle School, and graduated in 2010 from Air Academy High School in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Leigh participated in graphic design at Pikes Peak Community College and loved creating a variety of artwork.Leigh worked at Blue Star Recycling, a business honoring and creating work for people with autism and other disAbilities. In her free time, she was a regular customer of the public library and worked as a house and pet sitter for many people in the community. As a young adult, Leigh traveled often and was asked to speak to groups about herself on behalf of her work, as well as for the American Heart Association (AHA).During a trip to New York, she met with AHA regional managers in Manhattan and told them her story of the challenges she'd faced living with heart issues since birth. She further expressed her determination to live a full and meaningful life within those challenges. It was energizing to witness. At home, Leigh would hang with friends, play video games, make art and listen to music. She pursued handicrafts such as letter-writing, making hand-loomed fiber items, card-making, painting, drawing, cooking and caring for animals. Her love of music was immense, covering all genres though admittedly was most possibly the biggest groupie ever of Trans-Siberian Orchestra. She befriended people easily, always sporting a cheerful smile, a willing ear, and a helping hand.Celebration of Life, 2:00PM, Tuesday, June 21, 2022, Cottonwood Center for the Arts, 427 East Colorado Avenue, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80903.
